Hit a new PB at VIR last weekend with HoD ... 2:07.90, with Catalyst optimal lap down in the sub-2:05 range

Mods: Dundon D4 Power Package for 981 GT4 (using OEM GT3 center), Girodisc rotors, Pagid yellow's
Tires: Brand new Cup2 N1's

Played around running the Cup2's at 31 hot and 33 hot ... honestly I think they feel better at 33 -- will continue to test and document.

I know I am hitting apexes early, and I should carry more speed through the esses and south bend .... working on one thing at time !!

Great lap! You carried speed in the uphill esses very well from my perspective...went in 120 and came out 117. I'm going in at 125 maybe a bit more and coming out at 108 (that sounds horrible compared to you - I'm asking myself if I am coasting ). You carried nice speed through turn 10 (that's the left-hander, right?) - much more than me. Your Vmin around oak tree was good at 44, but it flashed 44 only for a split second, so I'd say 45. That's better than me in most cases, and I think your Vmin in turn 1 is better than me too. I have a 2:07, but not with the 3.8L - I got that with the 4.5L mod.

I run Cup 2s and stagger the air pressure - start at 26 (f) and 29 (r) typically maybe 1/4 to 1/2 less. I think the rears end up at ~34 at least - seems good to me. I'm on stock suspension with max stock camber and stock brake pads. I have new rotors and pads ready to put on, but I think I will ditch OEM pads and go with something more aggressive.

Thanks!! Yes I start out at 26 cold all around and at least in this heat, end up around 33. I have ran them staggered also, but usually just 1lb diff ... so 32 front 33 rear .... at 31 hot square, they were barking at me a lot more!!

T10 (South Bend) is tricky --- I could be carrying a lot more through the esses, you'll notice I get to 120 on the bridge straight and hold stead instead of accelerating, same up the esses -- because I'm not yet confident I can't stick T10 any faster than 85-90 and that's not a turn you want to lose the car (came close twice -- has made me gun-shy there).

Lots to learn, and lots of time still left on the track -- what a fun place, so glad it's 90 minutes from my driveway !!

Ditto. I'm in northwest Raleigh!
Yeah, noticed you holding at 120. Maybe I should try slowing on entry but not letting off so much. I've gotten loose several times around the downhill side of T10 as well - big pucker factor.
I have a 2006 JCW Mini I track also and love that I am flat out all the way up the bridge straight and through the esses I've heard stories of stock GT4s with pro drivers doing the same...the car can do it, but we can't!

Yes you have to slightly apply more throttle to maintain speed in the esses -- huge elevation change there ... and agree on that pucker factor on T10!!

I am working on adding 2% at a time through that section of the track ... but not back out until September with Tarheel BMW CCA, gotta take August off.

Nice lap @VIR!!

A few weekends ago, I brought out my GT4 @VIR during the practice session @AER endurance race. Although I had some pretty low grip tires pilot super sport (MPSS) I only managed to hit 2:08.8 with a passenger. I'm sure I have improved in 2 years, but track/weather/tire situations made a pretty big difference.

Previous PB was 2:04.7 March 2020 with better RE71R's and cool morning weather.

P.S. I have to remind myself to be more careful in the esses in my street GT4. and remind myself to haul-it in the esses in a real race car.

Wow that's a great time at VIR for the production GT4!! I would love to get into a Clubsport at some point ... but kinda overkill for DE's haha ... still, it'd be fun I'm sure.

wow 2:04 on RE71Rs is impressive. My personal best on RE71R is 2:06.31. What mods have you done? Mine was done with just alignment bits and brakes, but I feel I am close to the limit with that set up. Was planning on Hoosiers this fall.

Wondering if @matttheboatman or someone else is still updating page 1 - or has this been transferred over to the 718 pages?

Looks like the last update to either thread was February of last year.

That's too bad. This was always my go-to page to see what was possible in a GT4. Where do we go now?

mods -- allignment, toe links, DSC.
to be honest, the cool, but sunny weather was probably worth a second all by itself.
