This will be my first new Porsche. I wanted the last one but missed the window to order and most used ones have PDK and heated Sport Seats.
I am surprised to hear complaints such as the side windows not being special or that it doesn't look very different from the standard Boxster. To me it's like arguing that the 1973 Carrera RS looked like a standard T with a stripe and spoiler package. Both Spyders are special cars.
Congratulations man. It will be an EXCEPTIONAL car so take all the comments posted here with a grain of salt. Enjoy your new ride when it arrives and post some pics!

There are fed regulations for almost everything so I'm surprised that there's not one for rear window visibility. Just by looking at the pictures of the 981 Spyder's rear window, visibility has to be virtually non existent. I'm not a fan of rear cameras, but the 981 Spyder certainly needs one, at least that's the impression I get by looking at the pictures.
Lotus Exige, when sold here, didn't have "any" rear visibility as the intercoolers/wing (or something like that) blocked the view. I heard the regulation is just to have an inside rear view mirror, which Exige had. I suspect, Porsche expects the top to be down most of the time. But, I agree, when the top isn't down, visibility could be a challenge. Don't think it will bother me per se.
From the rear the 981 looks much cleaner and better to me. Yes the side windows on a 987 looks better but here is a big but. You lose head room with a with the low cut window and roof so this keeps me from a 987 Spyder. So what if the 981 Spyder is a GTS with a cool roof and a large motor it's still a good car.

FWIW, I'm 6-2 with a long torso and I never had a headroom issue with my 987 Spyder.
Thanks for asking. I am keeping my 'Crystal Blue' 1970 911E Targa. And I am adding something fast, loud & very 'green' that hopefully looks like this 'beast':
