I agree with zhaos comments. None of this day trip stuff that ipsi is talking about is remotely realistic for SoCal....in this century
golf year round and many good restaurants, I cede those points to ipse, however……I lived in Westside LA for 3 years before moving to the Rockies. What you just described was LA before this century. LA would have been amazing in the 60s, 70s, 80s, However, none of what you said is true for LA in the 21st century.
Other than the tourist bureaus, no one talks about snorkeling and skiing on the same days because that is IMPOSSIBLE. Snow skiing, snorkeling, and dune buggy in one day? Will never happen with the modern traffic of Socal! Maybe on a foreign planet where the day is 30hrs long...... Exactly where is your skiing/snowboarding that is less than 2hrs away? If we are talking about a real ski resort such as Mammoth, that is a 5 hour drive one way. Big bear is the only other SoCal ares that can still be considered a ski resort but is still 3 hrs each way on winter weekends. You can't do a "day" skiing trip when you are already down 6 hours of travel. None of the other places are worth skiing at all.
A day trip to San Diego? No one does a day trip to San Diego, because with traffic it is a 3hr drive each way from the Westside and even further from the Valley, unless you're driving at night. A "day trip" to Mexico is even more laughable.
SoCal was great before-----1 the population exploded and 2 it became a deep blue failed liberal state.
The CA state government is the worst in the entire country and no I don't feel like paying a huge amount of taxes each year just for them to waste it. I now save over a 100K each year in taxes by NOT living in CA. And the deep blue government of CA is the worst in the country, providing next to no services for their citizens despite the huge tax burden. I think I can spend my money better than LA county which currently pays 98 lifeguards over 200K/year! I also don't feel it appropriate to take money from me to pay for the healthcare of illegal aliens who want a sex change. There are endless examples of insane government waste in CA. And that is before we start discussing the useless liberal overregulation that drives companies from California and dramatically increases the cost of everything.
Clearly the tax money is going anywhere but schools, or highways, as both are terrible all across the state. And because the CA governments are a bunch of liberal weenies, the end result is that homeless and squatters have more rights than decent citizen with a job. Kids aren’t safe walking around most parts of LA, gangs rob stores in broad daylight and homeless people leave $hit and needles all over public places. My girlfriend worked in Santa Monica and she could not have lunch outside her office on ocean ave and wilshire, a fancy zip code right next to multi million dollar buildings, because homeless were everywhere, they wouldn't leave decent people in peace, and the liberal local government did nothing.
Only a very small percentage can afford to buy a house in CA (if they didn't inherit one). A house is out of reach for 85% of people in SoCal and the Bay area. https://ktla.com/news/california/onl...ew-data-shows/
The most apt example of the mentality of people in southern California and bay area, is the classic case of a frog jumping straight out of a pot of boiling water, but if you put the frog in the pot of cool water and slowly but consistently turn up the temperature, the frog doesn’t realize how much progressively worse his situation is and so dies in the pot.

But we have a high-speed rail project. Originally 4 billion that is now 33.2 billion and not operational yet. Maybe next year when 119 miles of track between Merced and some unknown place in the central valley. High demand there for high-speed rail in the central valley. Don't count on me to be a customer. Imagine cruising along at 150 mph beside the San Andreas fault when it decides to quake.

agree about the taxes and idiot governor though....Some day will most likely leave this beautiful state due to those things unfortunately

I know that free speech is something that socialists just can't stand because their politics are indefensible in an open debate.
They would prefer to live in their echo chamber where everything is repeated back to them line by line, so they can't be triggered by independent thought and ideas which are not part of "the mantra".

not all of SoCal is the cesspool of LA that you describe though...I grew up in OC and now live in wine country(Temecula) and lucky enough to not have to deal with the things people living in and around LA have to deal with(traffic and homelessness) I am 30 miles from the beach and two hours from Big Bear and Palm Springs and not ever going to try to surf and snowboard on the same day, that is insane, but not impossible .

My charging was like 2/3rds speed in that cold snap. His wh/km is better than I got too on the highway, so he was probably going below the speed limit i'm guessing. He didn't say if he left it outside in -38 though before he drove it or not, so that might be the difference.

Fox news is a bad thing? We used to make fun of countries like China with specific narratives in the media and banning anything that goes against that narrative, and somehow we transitioned into people actually wanting that?
Your news is very biased; you should at least want alternative sources with different biases so that you can hear a different side or angle to a story.

The predictable evolution of any RL thread involving EV — all eventually bottom out with politics and California.
Can we get back to the 718 EV discussion?
There are plenty of threads in OT for the rest of this stuff.

The biggest annoyance I find with my EV from a performance aspect is significant acceleration degradation below 40%. It seems partially software controlled as it accelerates okish from a stop, but has smart car performance at highway speeds, but acceleration as a whole is definitely affected. I noticed this with electric go-karts as well as if you want to set a fast lap with those you either need to show up when it's not busy or need one that has been charging by itself for awhile not being cycled constantly.
Even if by some chance these things get the range and charging capacity to do track events, and are unbanned from the tracks they're banned at, I see endless frustration with only being fast when the power range is in the 60-80% range (or greater but realistically you aren't showing up to the track with 100%, or charging up to 100% at the track).
I find it pretty annoying even in my DD knowing if I do a trip, i'm not going to be able to trust I have power to pass sub 50% charge. I also see inconsistent power as a danger to other people assuming they have acceleration they dont at the moment.

I wonder if that has anything to do with helping with cooling the battery packs under heavy use or if it is just a quirk of evolving a 982 chassis into a 983
