Bold stuff in a dedicated 997GT thread. You’re gonna get some shade. 😑 But no. A Mezger, manual, largely analog 997 is an entirely different beast. There’s no comparison to the 991s. Those cars drive themselves and lack the character the 997s have. Are 991s “better” stat for stat? Sure. If “better” was the aim, no one would ever buy a ‘73 RS over any car Porsche made after that year. If you want Apple CarPlay, you bought the wrong car. I got an aftermarket unit for mine when I bought it, and it took me about 3 days to realize that thing would never be installed. Steering wheel gripes?? None. If that’s your beef with these cars, you’ve definitely never driven one.

I bought the 997 instead of the 991 because the 997 are raw, analog, Mezger engine, better steering feel and overall drivability and total connection to the road.

Heck, I don’t even use the radio or AC in my car. I love to drive with the windows down so I can enjoy the music coming out of my competition Catback exhaust.

Your right. Sh*t. I failed to realize my GT3 doesn't have Apple Car Play.

By the way...the steering wheel on my 997.2 GTS is the same as my 991.1 GTS. I bought my two 997's after being disappointed with owning my 991. I still own it, and love it...but you don't know what you don't know.

I don't finance my cars.

I've been spending quite a bit of time with my 997.2 and 991.2 GT3s this past month -- I can routinely scare myself with the 997.2. The rawness has earned my respect.

Told ya there'd be shade. You sat front row at a home game wearing the wrong team's jersey and were open and notorious about it . . .

hehehe. I know sorry just playing devils advocate and yanking your chains a bit. In all honesty I would to love to own one and don’t feel how I stated (except for the steering wheel but). BUT new buyers who are new to the brand all go down this hole. The purest are the ones who tend to buy cash and hold for other reasons. The reasons I stated are the reasons for the price increase IMHO.

It is the company's version of heroin. There is no going back once you've experienced it. Or so I hear.

You can change out the steering wheel in a 997 to a 997.2 sport design steering wheel or even a 991 wheel (I think you just need a harness or adapter to make it work). PCCM Plus will most likely be coming to the 997 in the coming years as well to give Apple CarPlay compatibility. If those are the two things holding you back, it sounds like there are remedies.

If you prefer the way the 991 drives which many people do, then get the 991. Just keep in mind that in 10 years the 991 is going to be old and outdated as well. It's hard to constantly stay on the newest wave of technology unless you have the financial means to do so. Good for those that do. But for me, I will continue enjoying my older 997 GT car that delivers the exact experience that I want.

Also, I mean everything that I said very respectfully, I think what's great is that we all enjoy Porsche's and are passionate about them. No matter which model you like, I am good with that.

Here you go: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...che-gt3-rs-29/

Most expensive GT3 sold on BaT ($230k without fees). I guess some people like cars without Apple CarPlay that have an ugly steering wheel, and most importantly that were made before the last economic crash.

Congrats Doug!
