Believe it or not, when they first came out many, maybe even most, owners were tracking heck out of them. I saw several trade hands below MSRP.

Maybe 5-10 years ago this car did a few track days. This example looks like it hasn’t done much if not any. I haven’t heard of or seen a privately owned RS 4.0 at a track day in the last 5-6 years since a large amount of people parked them up. Maybe a few that were track rats before the spike in value still do track days, but probably ~5% of cars.

Not arguing that. The comments were with respect to steel brakes on a 4.0, which is a decision that would have been made at order time. My point is that many folks were ordering these to track. Things have certainly changed, not just for 997s, but the whole Porsche community is different. Does my deviated stitching make my sofas look fat?

Yeah I get what everyone is saying. Steel brakes on an RS 4.0 doesn’t always mean the car was intended or used on track. Some people thought the red calipers go better with the red accents around the car and didn’t think PCCB was worth $8840 which changed the calipers to yellow as a result. Plus, people then weren’t quite as concerned about resale value as they are nowadays.

It just looked like based on the condition of the exterior and interior, that it had not been abused or tracked but I could be wrong. These are mostly just my hypotheses.

Believe it or not, when the 4.0 first came out MANY first owners tracked their cars. Unfortunately, they were sold to collections to never be seen again after prices shot up, including this beautiful pts maritime car wow

Oh my, the recent 997.1 RS auction results are bringing a lot of opportunistic sellers out of the woods. Now we have 10k mile .2RS offered for $240k. To it's credit, this is a very high option build.

This car was for sale a year ago at $200k, but no takers. Great spec and appears in great condition. However, $240k seems very optimistic for a .2 RS with a whopping 9400 miles. But in this unpredictable irrational marketplace, hard to predict what something like this is would go for.

It's looking like there are VERY few cars that are pristine. As stated above, many cars were tracked (as they should be) and have some paint work done.
If there is a virgin car, it's going to for a ton of money at this point. The reference will be the RM auction car that's coming up. Very low mileage car that is in stellar shape.
It may come close to a 4.0!

I believe this car was shopped privately about a year ago or so and I remember the comments were "never tracked, yada yada" The internet doesn't lie and who cares, you're buying the "trackiest" street car...

The RM car has a few flaws and was not in the kind of condition that the 4k Pumpkin that sold for $215k on BAT. The BAT car was in crazy condition, and had so much documantation. The guy I just bought my GT3 from sold it because he found a .2RS w/3k miles and supposedly flawless. He paid just north of $200k for it from a guy in Arizona I think. It had a lot of stickers on it like a cup car or somesuch.

Here's a question (not to hijack this thread)

The guy I bought my car from advertised it on Autotrader showing the window sticker and COA as he had just purchased it from Isringhausen Autotrader ad

I failed to pick it up when I bought the car. Turns out it's in a storage facility with some junk and he owes $678 on it to get it out or it goes to auction. The a-hole wants me to pay half to get the sticker and COA out. I love the car so much. It's mint, and I'd like to keep the sticker with it. Outside of the fact that people behave like sh*t anymore, would you pay it? Is a sticker worth that to a potential buyer years later?

That is a complete a$$hole move on the seller's part. Guy sounds like a total scumbag. He sells you a car for $126k and now wants you to pay his delinquent storage fees? I don't buy for a second that a window sticker for a car he just bought is already in storage. In any event, as much as it would pain me, I would pay $340 to have my original window sticker. I'd then report the guy to the CA dept of revenue to make sure they know he didn't pay use tax on the GT3 he bought.

Kev,.. wait for that scumbags storage unit to go to auction & then buy the whole unit for less than $340,.. and then SELL his sh$$t back to him for a profit.

a-hole would deserve that kinda reversal

... then after all that is done,.. & money + window sticker are in your possession,... THEN, like 8lug said, report him to CA for unpaid taxes. Karma is a bi tch

If you know where the car was originally sold, contact that dealer. They may be able to give you a copy they have stored. Not sure how different the copy would be from the original but it's better than nothing.
