I sold my 26k mi .1 in June to a dealer for $10,000 more than same dealer and other Porsche specialty dealers offered me in Q4 2019.

Just a thought.
Please consider quoting a post you are referring to rather than just "quick reply".
Some / many posts talk about specific cars, but don't always include enough info to understand which car you are referencing.

Cheers

Craig

For those who actually own 997 GT3/RS, how many have actually bought blind (aka without ever driving it)? I have always thought my grail car would be the 991RS, but after driving it I didn't feel engaged on the street, which made me rethink the car (still looks amazing though!).

997 GT3/RS can't really be rented anymore, and I doubt any owner will let prospective buyers drive it either. How have actual owners dealt with this when they bought?

The dealer I purchased my 997.2RS from had a policy that didn't allow for test drives so I did not drive the car before purchase. I did sit in the passenger seat and that gave me enough "feel" to make the decision. There is nothing like it and I have an air cooled 3.6l 74 and 991GTS. I have driven both the 991.2RS and 991.2GT3 and I would go with the 997.2RS over all of them.

I bought my .2 without ever driving or riding in one, actually bought it sight unseen. I did have 15 years of 997 ownership experience with a.1 S and then a .1 GT3 and formed my own opinion about 991 vs 997 GT3 driving experience from RL reading and my friends with 2018 GT3s (they are both selling them by the way).

If you’re completing a PPI and have cash in hand, about to make a purchase, I’m guessing some buyers would allow a test drive. Also, I think dealers would as well if you’re 100% going to buy and the only thing holding you back is a test drive. I can say the test drive is only going to convince you that you want one. It’s the only car I’ve driven that’s given me that feeling.

Having ridden in a .1 GT3 prior to ever driving one, I can tell you even a ride may be beneficial. May be difficult with COVID this year, but the sensation I got from the passenger seat was similar to what I got in the drivers seat from the sound, handling, etc.

The most enjoyable cars I’ve ridden in have also been the same ones I enjoyed driving the most.

Yes I drove my .2 before buying. And it was at a Porsche dealership...

Once I found the exact car I was interested in, I called & placed a refundable deposit (which they said was good for 48 hrs). They understood my serious intent. The car was 12 hours away from me. I towed my trailer there the next day, and put it through paces. Drove it for 20 min, put it up on a lift & allowed me to inspect myself for 30 min, had the PPI sheets to inspect while I was under there too.

My two biggest surprises in buying a 997 GT3 for the first time, was the 1) $2,500 deposit, and 2) Good for only 48 hrs. The previous Porsche I bought from a dealership was a used 2012 Cayenne Turbo, and that was a $500 deposit, good for a full 7 days.

I was prepared to buy sight unseen but I'm glad i found one local that i could see and drive. These cars so sensitive to alignment settings, tires, etc that they all fee different. I've driven some that made me not want a GT3 and then others that made me say "i need this car". I'm sure a competent shop could have gotten any of them "right" but there's something about the initial drive when you know its setup correctly, and with no squeaks or rattles, that wins me over.

Hope to be picking mine up later this week....more to come then

Very much appreciate it sir! Unfortunately I’m in the Bay Area in CA. I know there should be a bunch of owners here as well, just gotta see if they are willing at least have me sit in it.
