Lots of unknowns with buying from an auction like that. But I already made too many enemies there by weighing in so I'll just let it be. Probably was a very solid deal, plenty of room left to deal with any surprises.

Does anyone have info on these two cars? That PCARMARKET price point makes both of these look rich even adjusting for the 997.1 vs .2 basis but maybe i'm missing something. These have been out there for a while... does anyone have any history on these? Looking to get into my first GT3 - thanks!

Was watching that auction, expected it to go for closer to $85k+ buyers premium. There’s always those that feel comfortable taking the risk of buying from a site where they can’t inspect prior or see the car and are buying from an unknown party. I’m not one of those people.
Also, the market as Doug said is not determined by one sale. When I saw the pics I noticed two issues, the rotors had quite a bit of cracking and the windshield glue issue. Neither of those are the end of the world, but I think they’re two things that a very particular buyer may start thinking twice about.
I seem to overpay when I buy a car, but when you’re able to talk with previous owners, see service records, see the car in person and feel comfortable with what you’re buying, It’s worth a premium to me.
Just like many are comfortable buying watches from unknown parties on Chrono24 without box and papers, I’ll always buy the seller and only buy from one or two trusted parties.
Either way congrats to both buyer and seller of that car. I am guessing it was on consignment as the seller had blurred the plate and also the plate frame for some reason. I still think long term the 997.1 GT3 is a safe place to put your money while also enjoying it. You’re not going to profit, but it’s better than buying a new 911 in terms of depreciation and enjoyment. Thanks for weighing in Doug, both in the auction and here.

I also should add I found it interesting that the one commenter was comparing that car to the black 997.1 GT3 that sold for similar money with similar mileage on BAT. That car had way more issues it seems and unknowns which is why it sold for so little. Bumper looked like it had impressions in it, I think there were some rust issues and unknowns, lots of weird stuff with that car. I would be interested to see if that car ever even transacted and if it did, was the buyer happy with their purchase. Maybe one of you with a Carfax or auto check subscription can take a look at that.
I also have had an interest lately to run all 900 997.1 GT3 VIN’s through Carfax or Autocheck to get average mileage, accident status, registration location, etc. But autocheck doesn’t have an unlimited option and Carfax stopped theirs years ago. I used to be able to run hundreds of VIN’s in a month. It would also be a time consuming process. For any still in Ohio or a select few other states it would be possible to get selling price.

Never realized there were so few US spec 997.1 GT3s out there. I believe that # is less than the number of US 996 GT3s. I had always thought the 996 gen GT3 was the more rare of the 2.
