I decided not to move forward but here is what I was able to ascertain. Note, this was about a month ago, I do not recall every detail but here is the general background I learned:

Car is being sold by consignment at Allen Motors. The car has been at the dealership for ~2 years for sale, started at a price around $170K and has been dropped over time to where it is now at $140k.

Three owner car. I do not know much about the original owner (location Miami) except that the car was setup for track use. The the car has aftermarket suspension arms and full spherical bearings. Also, I was told the shifter had been angled towards the driver which ended up the making the car hard to get into reverse. The first owner had the car for the majority of the miles, ~16K miles.

Second owner, out of LA, bought the car site unseen from Miami. The 2nd owner owns a number of car dealership in the LA area. He bought the car to enjoy, however soon realized that he was unable to easily get the car into reverse. Took the car into one of L.A.’s Porsche dealership (intentionally not mentioning which one) where the tech who was attempting to fix the transmission removed a pin on the gearbox and the shifter lost engagement. Apparently this accident would result in the need to rebuild the gear box. With the car new to the owner, he wanted to drive the and not wait for the rebuild of the original gear box. A rebuilt gearbox was bought from Porsche out which was located in a warehouse in Canada and came with a warranty. While doing the transmission repair, the owner and the shop who performed the repairs (LA Workshop 5001 Inc) decided to do a number of other maintenance items including rear main seal, pinned coolant pipes, Shark Works coolant metal pipes, new cable & shifter lever. I do not have the full list of items performed, this was a verbal recollection from a knowledgeable party. The second owner spent nearly $23K on the transmission replacement and other items listed above (bulk of the expense being the transmission). The owner didn’t skimp on getting the car back in order mechanically, however the car still has the aftermarket track components which would have been the next stage of refresh if the second owner kept it.

Third (current owner) has had the car since June 2017, and bought it as an investment. The car looks to have only been driven ~500 miles since his purchase. This owner is said to be a collector, however in August 2018 decided to list the car for sale (via consignment) at Allen Motors. The person at Allen Motors I spoke to said the car sits in the show room is occasionally driven by the owner when he stops in to check on the car, or otherwise the car is only driven when it there is a need to move it out of the way of other cars in the showroom.

Ultimately, I passed on the car based on what I learned about the suspension components. I’m not planning much track time, mostly spirited mountain driving and I did not want to have to worry about switching out the suspension components upon purchase. The dealer/owner would not go below the $140k sale price in consideration of the cost to switch back OEM suspension components.

With that said I’m still on the search for a 997.2 GT3 RS in the ~$140K range if anyone is in the position of thinking of selling.
Thanks for sharing. Posting the VIN as well in hopes that someone looking in the future has this data as well. WP0AC2A9XBS783078

Strange how the owner had to pay for the transmission when the dealer broke it.

Apparently the dealer denied pulling the pin. Again, this is second hand info I obtained in researching the car's history, however the conversation I had with the knowledgeable party seemed genuine and I do not see a motive for that person to have fabricated it (no dog in the fight with the current sale status).

Seems like decently priced, nice car on surface. Wow, those miles......crazy! I’ve put more miles on my RS just since covid hit (driving being one of the few things I could still do).

Definitely on the cheap side. Just a reflection of the suffering car market. But no PCCB's or buckets certainly prevent it from getting top dollar.

Bingo. No PCCB and more importantly sport buckets from factory rules it out for “collectors” that will pay for those high dollar low mile cars.

Right now I'm just a tire kicker enjoying my 7.2C2S, but was there anymore pics of this one? I'm a PCA member as well and couldn't get any to load. I'm loving the color combo and wishing it had higher miles and was in the 130 price range.

No, super rare in that an arctic silver car is identifying as a meteor grey car. The sarcasm runs drier than a martini here.

I'm good with that.

Ughhh. Seems like there are no "driver" quality 997.2 RS available for purchase without a story.

For people that wondered why someone may consider a 991 GT3 manual, availability is probably the biggest reason. There just aren't many 997 cars available in the 150-170 range, whereas 991.2 GT3s you have tons of choices.
