3.6L in the 996 and 7 are fine. Haven't heard of any issues unless you bore it out. Even bored to a 4.0L from a 3.6L is fine. It's the extra stroke that gets you...

Apologies to all, I still haven't had time to analyse the damper by VA. This years not going well, from a uninsured driver smacking my car from behind giving me neck injuries (still suffering) and then the collapse of the oil price throwing business challenges and reduced income... its been a hard start to the year. I promised Jamie I would do this and I will, just don't know when yet.

My engine build has gone on the back burner- sorry Jamie! No toys (boat and Ducati Panigale R will remain just a dream this year) or any miscellaneous spends for at least the first half of the year

Is the damper enough or should the actuator bolts also be replaced? How about some loctite as an added measure?

Depending on the year of your car, you may have the updated actuators in it.

Best Case:
1. Replace Actuators with most recent rev'd part numbers (.93 if memory serves)
2. Prep the surfaces and loctite the threads
3. Torque to factory specs
4. Add the .2 dampener to make sure the driving force on the bolts is lessened.

More likely case
1. Remove bolts from Actuators, clean them, loctite and retorque to factory specs
2. Add the .2 dampener to make sure the driving force on the bolts is lessened.

If replacing the actuators, I personally wouldn't touch the bolts. The updated version (.93) was designed to address the problem and Porsche does not recommend disassembly. As such, there is no "official" torque spec that I've found, although the numbers discussed in TChan's updating thread are reasonable for the diameter/thread count.
