Good catch and noted!

I'll have BBI do mine when I'm swapping the suspension.

Is there a way to visually determine which version is on the car? Can I assume a 2011 RS already has the latest version?

I don't know which version is in an '11 RS; a virtual certainty that it isn't the first version (.91) but not sure when Porsche updated to the latest version (.93).

The most accessible actuator is the most vulnerable, the passenger side intake. I haven't done it, but I understand from discussions with GMG it isn't too difficult to remove the cover and inspect. Someone that has done it can chime in, or you can start by talking to your local shop.

Quick bump as a two buddies with 997.2 RS's had their cam bolts back out over the weekend.

Mike has a damper but was waiting until the end of the season to install.

Local guy is being covered under warranty...

Don't wait until your replacing an engine, get these actuators checked/swapped and a dampener on the car!

Jamie - had either one of them had their actuators replaced already? or were these original actuators?

Exhaust or intake cams? Both sides?

I'm still under warranty and asked the dealer to check out the cam actuators. I also picked up the damper and will probably get it installed with the new actuators in the fall right when my warranty is up.

Hi Jamie

Just so this information is in the thread

I did receive the damper several weeks ago and with 1 club event to go in the season I decided to wait until that was completed when I would do all projects and give me some time to fine tune things (damper was just one of a number of things we are changing)

Anyway as luck would have it, we had a track day on Wednesday this week to check some suspension settings etc.. and the rattle appeared

stopped the day short and now left wondering whether or not immediate installation of the damper may have prevented the issue or whether it was well underway at that point anyway

Long story short, all works now brought forward!

I will post feedback when complete

thanks for your R&D and effort in bringing this piece of equipment about.

^ Seems like at least the engine is intact and no permanent damage done. Good luck with the build!

Thanks

3 and half years ago I had the issue with the left bank (the less common side), being the first in Australia to have it and very early with the model itself it took 6 weeks to fix as Porsche were still working out a solution but it had been rock solid until now.

Given its a known issue I guess it should be on the check list every xx months? Don't know for sure but this time it will be fixed once and for all both banks

Did the dealer check the actuator bolts? I have asked and P doesn't cover it if it isn't broken... I still have time on my CPO

Mike... I know know why you asked about the lockwiring.

As you said, the bolts may have started to back out so just fitting the damper may not have been the be and end all.

Good luck with the tear down and resolving. Lock wire and damper will = never happen again!
