How is it going post-installation with those who have the damper now?

I have been running a damper for a while now. I did a VA test on a dyno but the data was currupt- I was getting interference from some where and as it was a freebie on the dyno I ran out of time to diagnose. The data seemed to show an improvement but the signal noise made it hard to interperate with any conviction.

One side effect is my fire extinguisher which is hard mounted to the roll bar is now silent- the trigger used to rattle and vibrate at certain speeds.

No negative effects noted.

Happy with the peice of mind ready its ready for my 4L+ build.

Did you also replace the actuators? I have the damper sitting in my garage but my car still is under factory warranty until Sept.

I am .1 3.6 so they don't suffer the same problems as 3.8's or 4.0's.

I did it becasue I was interested in the science of harmonics and my company does VA (vibration analysis) in the Oil and Gas industry. Also when I do my build I didn't want to suffer oil pump failures etc.

Ranger/Champion had a few issues which were resolved by adding the ATI damper from Jamie. There are others running big builds now using this safety measure as well so hopefully they will chime in.

Mike was going to fit his ATI damper (ex-Jamie) to hi 3.8 .2 until the accuator bolts backed out a couple of weeks ago so unfortuntetly he missed the boat by trying to get to the end of the seasion to fit the damper. Like coolant pipe pinning/welding if you wait its a ticking time bomb.

My advice buy and fit James ATI damper ASAP to your 3.8's and 4.0.

Thanks for the feedback. I have this on order and plan to fit it before our next event.

Any more feedback from people who have had the damper installed?

I've talked to several experienced Porsche mechanics regarding the issue with the cam bolts...all of them confirm that this is a common enough problem and that the damper may help. But they also have their own theories and are not sure a damper is a 100% complete solution.

I am trying to follow the risk level across various GT1-engined cars.

I have a 08 GT2, is this something I must consider? Sounds like the 3.6L might not be affected...

If I ever upgraded to a LWFW, would my risk profile increase?

Also, despite repeated promises there was never any hard data shared about the impact the damper has on vibrations/harmonics.

Lots of theories out there, I know with certainty mine is working as most other stroked builds have had to do something to combat the harmonics. Mine has no issues, RS Ranger has had no issues after install and had failures before it.

The Damper is not a magic bullet, it reduces the driving forces helping the cam bolts to back out. A replacement to the latest revision of the cam actuators, tighten the bolts with red loctite and install a damper.

3.6L cars don't have as much problem even with LWFW...

Still working on it and will continue to work with those that have received free or reduced priced dampers in exchange for data.

Well spotted. Also missing 4 wheels and up on the lift.
A lot of nuts and bolts keep backing out so we are replacing them systematically with better locking ones.
