Talked with ATI and they said to make the damper a smaller diameter will make it much less effective. We're about at the minimum as it is...

So that means modifying the lower water pump housing to allow the damper to fit. This seems like a much bigger deal than it is. On the GT3 the area in question doesn't house anything, it's there for the scavenge pumps on a turbo. Since we don't have scavenge pumps, there's no issue with machining the area to allow the damper to fit.

This is substantially more involved than just install a damper and be on your way. We're willing to do the machining for a small fee. And the first 997.2 GT3/RS to sign up is free...

I honestly believe this modification to be well worth your time and effort as the cost of a cam bolt failure is potentially many times the cost of this preventative measure.

Feel free to leave your comments and I'll do my best to answer!

Do you have a photograph or illustration of what needs to be machined?
Thanks

The pic on the left is the 997.1 water pump housing with the damper installed.

The pic on the right is the 997.2 water pump housing with the stock pulley installed.

We would machine the areas from about 4:30 to about 6:30 on a clock face and weld it back up. to make room for the damper.

Looks like it would work and thanks for the information. I have a CPO currently and I don't think the current management would like seeing that mod.

Juan,

My pleasure. Glad a little bit of my build is showing up on yours! Enjoy it in good health!

And whenever we're on the same coast for beers, you got it.

Jamie if I have a medical conference in the Seattle that has relevance to my field in interventional radiology I will be there and will reach out to you.
Unfortunately medicine SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS. The gov't (fukin Obamacare) wants physicians to work for free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
You see what's happened with the VA. They will withhold care to veterans and eventually cause deaths. That's our POS administration.
Sorry to get off topic BUT as a veteran who served, and killed for this country, it becomes VERY VERY VERY PERSONAL. Not even God will forgive my transgression against my enemy.

Thank you Snowboarder. As a Cuban immigrant who fled communism in the early 60's, I was impressed upon by my father to serve the country that gave us freedom ... the USA!!!!!!!!
I was drafted in 1968 (as a resident alien ... green carder) and proceeded to serve. By 1970 had achieved E5 grade and proceeded to Airborne Ranger Long Ranger recon. patrols. Bottomline ... kill or be killed.
Again thank you for your appreciation but nobody gave a $hit for those who served back in that era.

Alan, my honor of your service.
I am ready to walk away from this forum b/c those present do not understand.
All I knew and was trained to do was to fight and kill.
Thank you for being there Alan.

Juan,

As you know there are some here who do understand the demons and what you {and others here] gave in the line of duty.

We care.

Drop me a line to catch up on life and cars...

Your friend
