In my opinion, if you had this happen to you, especially on a normal driving moment (street), the best thing to do for the safety of yourself and others is to report the issue to the NHTSA.

Is there any info out about a possible class action law suit?

I think a class action is great for the law firms, but I'd really like to see Porsche quietly offer a free service (by any euphemism of their choosing) to retrofit updates from their 2013/2014 model year R&D.

Something low key, no liability or whatever, just fix it good and proper.

Win me over on ethics and conviction -- you can't win over a customer by losing class action litigation and being compelled to recall cars before they kill drivers.

New user here. Does the 2007 997 Turbo have this Mezger engine problem? I see 996 and GT2/3 issues but did not see any 997 Turbo issues. Tkx for the help.

The 997 series 1 turbos are Mezger based, the 997 series 2 are 9a1 based... Pretty sure a 2007 would be Mezger based. Cheers...

Tkx to FFaust and 911rox for replying to my 2007 Turbo question. Looks like it might be time to sell/trade mine. Sorry to hear the manufacturer is not recalling these engines for a safety fix since this may happen on a city street and lets hope no children are on the sidewalk or at a street corner when one lets go and the driver looses control.

2001 996tt 40k miles and stock engine other than flash and exhaust. Mine popped Turn 4 Thunderhill. Had several fittings welded by local shop said he has done this several times already. Miata spun off track behind me.

This would be very classy of them and I would prefer it taken care of this way as well. Let's hope they see the light...

Default Another one for the list....

Jan 12, 2013.
2007 GT3 RS
39,000 miles
Turn 13 at Circuit of the Americas, 30 minutes into the first session of the day on a cold morning. Impressive cloud of steam and coolant all over left rear tire. Lost the back end but not a full spin, no other cars affected. Car was running WaterWetter, not Antifreeze, as a precaution.
Specific Coupling: lower driver's side
Repair Solution: Failed coupling repaired. All couplings drilled and pinned by Mike Callas, Rennsport Works, Sealy, TX.

Last edited by Nugget; 02-09-2013 at 01:56 PM. Reason: Update now that repair is complete.

Wow, this sh$t is killing me. My 11 RS in dealer shop now for tires, oil change and RSS Xpipe install. I spoke to dealer tech who said they have not seen this problem, but have heard about it. After looking at 350+ posts there doesn't seem to be a problem with the 10-11 model year cars, although unrelated front radiator failure is mentioned. Has the new adhesive and extended tubes solved the problem? I'm not adverese to spending the money if I have to but it surely seems the exception rather than the rule, with the 10-11 cars. I don't want to void my warranty specifically, and have purchased 2 bottles of water wetter and 10 gallons of distalled water in prepartion for a coolant flush and change, but after researching water wetter there seems to be problems with brown slime and possible microbial growth problems as discussed in other car / motorcycle forums. Just google Water Wetter brown slime. Seems like you can't do anything right. Also I called Redline regarding the recommended 15% antifreeze mix on street driven cars as stated on the bottle. What the hell! This is driving me crazy!

A better alternative to water wetter IMHO YMMV if not running antifreeze as well is Pencool 2000. I run it in my 6GT3 with no antifreeze even though I have had my fittings welded.

Is that confirmed that the extended tubes are indeed extended? I'm kinda doubt that. That would necessitate changing the female part that the fitting goes into(there was discussion bout this but no comparo pics of old vs new).I think age is the major factor in grenading coolant whether hose or glue.
