Yet here I am doing exactly that. Have a C8 on order, and thinking about canceling due to GM being GM, and looking at what I could get for the same money in a porsche. Crazy, huh?

I don't think its crazy. You can get a damn nice 997.2 for that money. Totally different in your case might be more desirable. It was in mine.

Lol at the moniker. I was thinking earlier today that the C8 is the ultimate poser car as it trying hard to look like an NSC or an exotic, but kinda fails miserably with the rear half of the car.

As someone mentioned, these thing will likely be $80k out the door so why not check out an 08 or 09 Turbo or try a GTS with pdk for low $70s. You may even pick up an 08 or 09 Turbo with manual for $80k or less. Myself, I have really looked in a while so I may be off base price wise on the manual turbo.

My C8 build is $78k. My biggest concern with spending the same on a ten year old turbo is that the C8 would have a full warranty for 3 years, so I know my maintenance costs are minimal. I figure I'd have to leave some back for that, so figure I need to stay in the under $60k range.

Do a Fidelity power train only warranty. I got one for around $2,200 for 2 1/2 years and 24,000 miles for a 997.2 cabriolet my picked up 2 years ago. We have since sold it and never used the warranty.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look in to that.

First, I do not like the way the C8 looks at all. It looks cartoonish and something like Hyundai would do when trying to pass off a knock-off cheap NSX. I also like a sports car or flat-plane sound, not a red-neck V8 roar.

Performance wise, can you drive a 997.2 at the limits? I doubt 99.9% of the people on her can drive a 997.2 at 9/10s, much less 10/10s, on a track and a 997.2 has plenty of performance for a public street.

Sports cars are all about the subjective, not the objective unless you are actually racing them on track . . . please keep that shyte off public streets. NA 911s have never been the fastest in a straight line or best handling on the race track, nor are most Ferraris, but they are the complete package and a joy to own and drive.

I love the looks of a 911, I love their handling characteristics, the steering, the braking feel, the balance, the flat 6 sound and the feel of a 911 throttle steering out of a corner. They are comfortable, have nice interiors, dependable daily drivers and perhaps the best all around sports cars in the world for the price. You can daily drive them and beat the heck out of them. They have very low maintenance costs compared to other exotics and the secondary market, like Ferraris or Rolex watches, so you can easily trade in and out of them without getting killed.

They also have back seats and I have been stuffing my kids in the back of these things since the 1990s. They didn't seem to mind too much as my middle daughter who is 24 is now a very accomplished racer and 911 lover and my youngest daughter, now 8, loves the little back seat.

Reading your posts is like listening to soothing music. I can feel your passion about cars. I’m the same way growing up racing motocross and dirt bikes. I just got into Porsche last year and have a big learning curve ahead.

You could also look at Certified Pre-Owned 911s and get a 2 year warranty.

Yes, this is the best advise. I have even seen some 08s for sale certified here recently. 2 year, unlimited mikes factory warranty. Doesn’t get better than that.

Porsche offers pre owned warranties on 12 year old cars? Wow. Time to browse the local dealer.

Yes, they go back to 2007. Here is where to search nationally for CPO cars.

https://nationalpreownedporsche.com/

Here is a search I did that pulled certified cars going back to 2007 including a 2007 turbo for $73k and a 2008 turbo for $69k.

https://nationalpreownedporsche.com/...&direction=asc

2008 CPO turbo cab for $69k:

https://nationalpreownedporsche.com/...allic+22361791

2007 CPO turbo for $73k:

https://nationalpreownedporsche.com/...Black+26990063

I really like this 2010 turbo for $75k:

Admittedly without having seen the car, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that $60K was probably all the money for THAT car. Carmax Porsches are typically not the cream of the crop cosmetically - though every so often they will get a really clean one in. In following their inventory (and looking at several) and the broader market over the last few months, I find their prices pretty comparable to the rest of the market and not particularly attractive in many cases given the condition of the cars. They seem to have figured out how to price Porsches well enough, but they also have several that have been sitting for months and they don't adjust prices much, if at all. It's definitely an interesting model and they must be doing something right...
