I don't think so Phil. Porsche is aiming at two different markets with those two cars.

The Cayman battles with the Stingray more so, than the 911.(imho)

911 sales are sluggish now, because the world economy has too much turmoil.

I think it does, for the older 911 folks, they still prefer a smaller Porsche, the 997 and 991 has gotten really big. I was waxing my 997 in my garage and noticed how huge it seems compared to an older 911. The 991 is already a fat pig, I hope it doesn't get any bigger.

Well, that may be your viewpoint,(and I agree),But I pretty confident that Porsche doesn't take that viewpoint.

Porsche will tell you , those are different markets(apples and oranges). From a corporate perspective, that is not what they are thinking(just my take).

I understand that Porsche are aiming at two different markets with the Cayman and 911, and certainly there will be plenty of people who buy the 911 because of perceived status, they are just 911 people, or for whatever reason. However, when you compare a $63k Cayman S to a $84k base Carrera with essentially the same performance it is a harder leap for quite a few people to justify in my view.

That said there are a bunch of 991 Turbo and Turbo S Cabs around here driven by Suzie Soccermom, so I guess the status of having the more expensive Porsche works.

I fit into that category for no good reason other then - I felt I'd always lament not buying the perceived top model. Done that to myself a few times with other vehicles and always took a loss on the upgrade. In this case I understand it's not really a huge upgrade but I'd always slightly regret my Cayman purchase.

Yes, yes it's all internal nonsense with little justification on paper but that's where my head was. 2014 Cayman is a fantastic car but I couldn't be happier with my 997.2.

To say the least, it was our pleasure!

While the SC's 180hp is nothing like the 385 ponies of our 997's, it sure is a full-time engaging ride and you don't know how much I wanted to tag along today (in the C4S!) while you guys head north back north to WA!

Susan and I are looking forward to the next time our paths cross again!

Be well my friend and safe travels to Claire, Moby and you!

P.S. Please tell us more about the ClearPlex install and how it already saved some of your sanity...

Been a busy few months for me with work, holidays, kids, so left doing anything to the P for a while, but got some time on my hands now so getting everything organized. Got a quote from a Connolly leather fitter for getting the whole center console & gear surround trimmed in black leather with matching double stitching (black interior). They will remove install and refit for.... $340 They guarantee an exact match, will also try & get them to stamp either the Porsche emblem or Carrera S on the arm rest.

Also getting the seat backs covered in vinyl. The company I visited said they have done a number of 997's in brushed titanium, which I liked, as with an all black interior the titanium will give a bit of contrast.

Before & after pics to come
