Hi folks. Curious if others have seen this new unit come with black trim. I asked the local Porsche dealer I purchased from built they only seem to know of / carry this grey-ish looking unit. Heard of someone else with this issue who was planning to paint it. Anyone else have this issue or is there a part number for a unit with black trim?

I think the black one you’ve seen will be the 996 one which is a different shape.
Hi All, I’ve worked out how to get an external usb to work. It works for playing music from a usb stick and phone charging, but not CarPlay. Not sure why, but will see if I can get this working. I’ve added two pictures. One is the pins on the back of the PCCM showing which needs to be connected and the other shows it working.

Brilliant. It’s odd that the data connections work but there’s just no power to the usb connection. Great idea getting it from elsewhere. The unit on the 996 model connects to the brown usb socket and that same 10 pin socket. So there may well be two data connections there and maybe the 996 brown socket also doesn’t have power! Maybe worth looking at a 996 aux/usb unit.
Looks like you can buy 10pin to USB cables for android head units. The connector on this one is the wrong shape though. Maybe this is the way to get car play. Pic below may give a hint.

So, if someone has a 997 with black interior, it looks like they will have to paint the new PCCM+ trim on this unit black if they want it to match? Ugh.

Um, I think if your console is black you have a 997.2, there are other options to add CarPlay to .2. I don’t think you can actually use this.
Hello All,
I got everything installed and running in my non-Bose car. Sound quality is much improved now over the old head unit. And I do have a 6 band eq. displaying and functioning as well.
My question: at volume 0 or mute, I can still hear white noise. Does anyone else have this issue?

I have the same setup as you and I’m getting the same issue. Odd hiss on pccm startup and when muted. Not sure what’s causing this.

It’s definitely a 997.1. Just figured it out - the original owner spec’d the PCM package in leather (a hefty $2k option in 08). So my old unit is wrapped black leather and I’ll have to figure out how to make the new unit look like it’s supposed to be there…

Very good, USB port at the back plays music and charges. But as I mentioned before, with the external media box of the 996 it has special USB ports,I think, then CarPlay should also work.
@beebman , @medicus and @G.I.G. I’ve gone ahead and ordered the media unit at £85 including shipping. I’ll confirm how the phone socket maps to the 10 pin socket. With that info it should be possible to wire a usb directly for peanuts (with a 10 pin plug).
I’ll probably keep it and route it to my glovebox as originally planned (so I can use wireless CarPlay). I’m expecting to have to splice in some wire to get it in a good position. I will report back once it’s appeared.
If anyone wants to purchase (depending on success). I got from eurospares.co.uk part number 91164551300. Dan

There’s a lot of information about “PCM in leather” on this Rennlist thread.
