I’ve driven a tip and it’s horrible. Truly takes away the fact that it has a turbocharged 400hp engine in it.

I have driven both extensively and I think you may have not driven the Tip in a manner that took advantage of what it does well.

What is it that it does so well?

If you put the transmission in manual mode and shift through the gears like you would with a manual car the car response like it has a manual transmission but you don't have to use a clutch pedal and stick shift.

I've owned both and although the clutch is light and not tiring, I've been caught in situations where it's like water torture to inch along on an incline (I was once stuck in exiting Pebble Beach behind a fatal accident and it took 45 minutes to go 3 miles upslope with the smell of fried clutch -- that was the day I lost my distain for Tips). Although I'd prefer to use a shifter (as with other 'automanuals'), the Tip switches are handy and quick. The car magazines in reviewing the '01 Turbo were positive on the Turbo/Tip combination, quoting a couple race drivers who preferred it. I wasn't convinced then, and I still don't think the Tip is perfect, but it's a good option.

Didn't Top Gear rate the Tip as the ultimate point and shoot weapon?

The day I picked up my car, I had to drive it from Long Island City, across Manhattan and out through Jersey in rush hour traffic - no fun with a 6 speed. I really wished it was a tippy then. If I lived in a city with significant traffic issues, I'd strongly consider a tippy.

I drove a manual back and forth from work in rush hour traffic here in Atlanta for years. The driving involvement the manual transmission offered was a breath of fresh air in what was otherwise a mind numbing 1-2 hour process of driving to and from work.

Either that or you could just be a masochist.

I am going with the latter.

It was as I stated.

After a day in the office it was always great to get out and away from the tech, meetings, project management and actually be involved in the aspects of driving a manual transmission sports car; movement, problem solving, art form.

You posts are proof that self realization is not your forte. I am sticking with my analysis.

I'll stick with what George Bernard Shaw said about wrestling with a particular farm animal.

Proving my analysis is spot on.

It's not going to work.

I'm out on this one.
