Correct, though there was also the 'Y59 (Aluminum/Chrome)' option, which bundled X54 (exhaust tips), X70 (Stainless door sill guards) and X71 (aluminum look instrument dials).

From the 2003 order guide (though similar for all 996 Turbo years):

(the second column of option codes are the ones that conflict and can't be ordered together)

I sure wish there was an easy way to get the Tip shifting quickly and crisply... LOTS of good deals on Turbo Tips!

Ultimately for me, 100% deal breaker.

The only easy way to make a Tip shift fast and crisp is by going flat out on a race track. Unfortunately that style of driving is unworkable on normal roads.

Its a m/b trans. Southern hot rods or paramount performance has been nodding then for yrs to shift fast and handle 1000 ft/lbs

Isn't there an evoms tune for the tippy trans which makes it more aggro?

I messaged with a few tuners out of curiosity a while back... The read I got was slight improvements can be made with software, but the lag, lazy shifts and second gear starts can't be dialed out with software.

I know some drag guys modify them for handling massive power and super quick shifts, but I'm pretty sure the cost of doing that would offset any tiptronic purchase savings and perhaps kill it as a daily driver type car.

I have not driven a 996 Tip, however when it comes to sports cars I'm a purist. It needs to have 3 pedals. I don't even care if I drive it slower than someone else that has PDK, Tip, SMG etc. The autos just don't do it for me when the reason I purchase a car is to enjoy the drive (personal preference I know).
