What did you do to your 996TT today?
Talked with Harvey, he said it's flat lining up top because the VE of the motor is falling off. Says I've got plenty of fuel, so it's must be running out of ability to pump more air through. It's spooling at 3500-3600 rpm, so I'm happy with that, especially with it pulling hard to redline. Right now it's on a mafless tune but he's also made a maf tune for me too. We talked about the dynojet numbers, he suspects it'd top 550rwhp on Bear's dyno, I'll have to try and get it over there this Spring sometime to see . He was very impressed with its performance and the way it feels. Says the motor is very happy with the setup and its running extremely well. He had a funny comment about the cars, he's got a loud exhaust on his 996 turbo, which gives more of an audible indicator of power. Mine with the europipe is much more quiet but he said in driving it, it feels just as strong as his car!

That makes sense. I figure OEM K24 compressor is probably maxed out at 550whp of airflow for the pair. Those are still excellent numbers. It will be interesting to see what it puts down on Bears rollers. When Cervelli dynoed Paul’s car there it put down 460s if I recall. That was on a stock 3.6 with OEM k16s, a Cobb OTS tune, and a 3” cat bypass exhaust. If you can do 550 then that would have stock K24s making 90whp more than stock K16s.
I know it isn't conventional wisdom, but I love my K16's for what I do with this car... Love the wa the spool at altitude, find the curves great for canyon ripping. Not sure it's a direct comparison, different dynos, etc. but look at the peak torque numbers... 562 with the K16's on an off the shelf tune.

That is correct... Off the shelf tune on that run, and with the fat AF, clearly not optimized as a custom tune might provide. It has, however, been bulletproof, never a drop-off in performance when run hard, no issues on the track and super torquey on the low end. That said, it's on my to-do list to do a custom tune for it.
I would be cautious with torque in the upper 500s as many engines that are run hard with high torque at low rpms on K16 end up with bent rods. Many don't even realize it until the engine is torn down. I think you are right near the limit of the stock rods. Be careful.

Hey Paul! You should take the car to Harvey and have him tweak it for you. He's a top notch Cobb tuner. I think it would be well worth it as there is clearly a ton to improve on. I didn't realize the curves were so choppy. You are very rich and clearly the OTC maps are nowhere near optimal of our high altitude conditions.

Yeah, I’m horrible with names but numbers tend to stick in my head forever for some reason. Maybe I should head to Vegas and start counting cards.. 😉

Paul, I'd like to see your graphs with rpm on the lower axis. That way it's easier to see when the turbos are spooling and then compare the how they're spooling compared to the k24's. While I definitely appreciate how the k16's spool, I'm willing to give up 500rpm of spool down low for the ability to carry power all the way to 7000rpm

These last posts make me a little sad that my car has so many miles and so much engine wear. I could surely use more power up top as it seems to stagnate around 125-130. With the worn valve guides and somewhat leaky rings I am afraid to push any more power. Preservation is my main goal at the moment. Besides (I keep telling myself) those Miata dudes are doing this with 120 HP.

Added another one to my garage
Just a quick back story, 4 owner, 68K mile Turbo S Cab, GT2/TurboS hybrid, modded BEYOND insanity. I'll be featuring this very unique car on my channel very soon. For now, Here he is, CK. Let's see if you can guess why:
Yogi-Mama going for her first ride in CK.
This car came from Arizona with lens overs to mask their beauty. Not any more! Riiiiiip!

Lapis blue + natural brown is a very nice combination, and those are the ugliest wheels I have ever seen.

How wrapped is wrapped? I've been having the worst time trying to find a white 996 turbo. I've found a car with a great spec but it's black, and contemplated just wrapping it but I'm not sure if I would be satisfied with it.
