I'm definitely down for a dyno day. As far as Paul's hpr time, that depends on which car he brings, lol! I think for his other prepped 996 I'm 5+ seconds quicker?
Picked up my car from the tuner after having him set it up for the k24's. Also got a ride in pfbz's Cayman GT4RS, which is every bit as cool as you'd think, if not more. The induction noise in it is *insane*. It completely drowns out the exhaust, even though the exhaust isn't quiet by any stretch of imagination. Ride is extremely controlled but not harsh at all, shifts are crazy fast, power is quite good, it puts you back into the seat even though pfbz couldn't rev it all the way to 9000 rpm since he's still in the break in period. Fabulous car, hopefully I win one in the PCA raffle, lol!
Onto my car, which I was dying to drive. I probably put 70 miles on it today, freeway and city as the tuner isn't that close to me. Unfortunately most of it was in traffic, so I wasn't really able to lay into it much. However I was pleasantly surprised to find that the low end feel around town is basically the same as it was before. It doesn't really feel any more laggy than the k16's. Yes, it doesn't hit full boogie as fast but in "normal" street driving it doesn't feel weak knee'd at all. It feels more progressive in spool and when it does hit full boogie, it's definitely boogie'ing harder and for far longer than before. Hopefully I'll get it out more this weekend and find some emptier stretches to see how it feels in the top of 3rd gear to 7000rpm.
2:00min is a solid time that few 996TT can break on R-comps but it's doable. Not sure what Paul has run but I would imagine your cars are fairly similar. Chas is down to 1:55s but his car is starting to morph in to a dedicated track car. Every second below 2:00 becomes exponentially more expensive....
I like how you said every second becomes more expensive and not more challenging. One would assume that in that time the skill is there, but it is important for folks to really know that seconds usually equate to thousands of dollars.
Checked the oil level yesterday since I'd been driving around and the engine was warm. Had to top it up a bit to get it to my 2 bars below full level I like to run it. This morning I R&R'd the belly pans to reinstall the front driveshaft. This isn't a hard job, but I don't see how people are doing this in 15 minutes. Even with the car already up on my lift it took me longer than that from tools out to tools put away. Car is almost ready for the season, I'm going to flush the brake fluid in a few weeks and then address the hvac blend doors. After that it should be good to go.
Spent the morning at the local Police station waiting for an officer to sign off on my no front license plate "Fix It Ticket." He seemed as irritated with the Parking Enforcement officer for issuing the ticket as I was...
Met a friend for lunch, who'd been kind enough to let me drive his X50 car in the Fall. That cemented the thought that I wanted k24's, then he was the one who found the k24 turbo listing for me. So I figured I'd toss him the keys to my car and let him see how it compares to his, since I did the 1 bar wastegates and 5 bar fpr. Then I came home and washed it. Also power washed (ie sprayed down) the other two cars to get the winter grime off them. Won't really "wash" those until Spring is here.
