For the first time since I've owned the 02 996tt with 48,000km engine died on the highway. I just filled it up an it lost power I cruised to the shoulder and no restart.
Towed back to my independent. I suspected FP but it worked. I noticed the power supply connection was very broken. I already replaced the sender unit last year for burning a hole on the ground wire side.
I replaced the connections and it sputtered but wouldn't start. The mechanic assumes the pump is weak. Well it's 20 years old.
I'll probably order a new pump but for now I want to try a regular in tank pump. Pity I have several external 044 pump I'd like to use but it doesn't appear to be an easy modification.
Words of advice here.

That sounds like a burst hose in the fuel tank. The pump will still flow fuel, it won't make enough pressure to run the engine.
If you want to run an in-tank 044 pump Radium Engineering makes adapters to fit the 044 pump to the existing fuel pump mount.
I popped in a cheap Amazon pump, tested the hoses for leaks and it started.
Last year the ground connection at the sender unit melted through. Now there is sign of burning on both sides of the positive connection. I guess the original pump has been struggling for a while.
I just want to get it home and I've already ordered a DW300 340lph pump.
Got my other stock wastegate and the UMW 1 bar wastegate kit. Next step, install the wastegate kit, wastegates on turbos, sync the wastegates to each other and finally install the turbos...
It starts after very long cranking. And the transmission starts in 3 gear. Idle is fine in neural or park but lumpy and hesitant on drive but I made it home.
I hope it's just the FP. I guess it's in limp mode but why?
