Are bolt ons still available for that, or do you have to graft on Mitsubishi parts?
DSM= Diamond Star Motors, a collab between Plymouth, Mitsu and Eagle. They're all the same.

That talon looks awesome. I was just looking at a nice 1st gen. I had too many to remember, lots of first gens. I had a laser, few eclipses, few talons, ended with a few more Evos and moved on. I loved those cars and motors and they taught me a lot, and probably made me a mechanic by force lol. They are nothing but problems, but when they work, they are amazing cars.

I don't think so, the 4g63 was in that car. The 4g64 was still used by Hyundai if I recall until not too long ago. Now that's a good motor for the old car, a 4g64 bottom end with the Kia head and it makes a 2.4 that will rev. Lots of good combos out there. The 4g63 is a great motor that's been around a long time and can make lots of power. They also break lol.

Yeah, the ej25 was known to break too.

I recall a guy who had a second gen talon, made good power, but always seemed to have the odd issue.

Lots of ECU tunining options exist for that engine. DSMLink and quite a few plug and play standalones as well.

I don't see why it couldnt be a 400 or 500 whp car and be reliable if its built correctly. I think the crankwalk issue was a problem on the 2G dsms anyways, right?

The Evo 8/9 were pretty reliable, IMO.

Cranwalk was a 2g/ 7 bolt issue and didn't affect the 6 bolt motors. They're stout when built and can be reliable, but experience has shown me otherwise. Times are different now too, there was lots of experimenting back then. We used to use aquarium bleed valves for boost control. Makes me feel old. I'm not knocking them, the motors are amazing. My Evo was a reliable car that was very fast for its time with little work. But those who really were immersed in them when the were semi newish know what money pits they can be.

I had a '95 GST in high school (2000 or so) that was quite powerful for the time (big 16G, external wastegate, front mount intercooler, 25psi of boost, ACT 2600 clutch with lightweight flywheel, all the other things that go with those). I drove that car like it was stolen and beat the holy hell out of it and I never had a single issue with it, it was shockingly reliable.

i remember reading about a GSX build where the guy was filing grooves in the head and called them 'sin grooves.' he couldn't figure out why the engine wouldn't idle...

My college roommate had a 1st gen Eclipse gsx (? the awd turbo) and it was the arch nemesis of my G60 Corrado... if I launched the G60 well I could beat it sometimes. When I got the VR6 Corrado things were more equal. We did have some pretty great cars then, two guys had 240SX, one guy had an Integra GSR, one guy had a Tempo.

Had one in HS, what a POS. My first fun car was an SHO that I installed Eibachs and Konis on. It got made fun of but took off when the secondaries opened up at 4k rpm. Pretty fun around Road Atlanta.

It's really shameful the V8 SHO was automatic only. Come on Ford, even VW made the W8 Passat with a manual AND you could get both in a wagon!
