If he is selling his artwork from grade school for $500 a pop, I've never been so proud...

Got him down to 19k...it was black Friday and there was a lack of recent service history, got it inspected & borescoped and it all checked out. It's being delivered now.

For the record, I kinda like the 3-spoke wheel better than the 4-spoke. Call me weird.
You're weird, and we hate you.

j/k, congrats. Start a new thread and give us all something to drool over. Well bought I think.

Don't forget the mk2 sideskirts on an mk1 and also JI's favorite 17" wheel combo, not to mention the halogen headlights and pumpkins.

I saw that, but as shameful as it may be since we have a MkI with it's skirts I don't notice a difference. I'm sure I would if they were side by side, but it's not obvious to me.

Can anyone help me out with 996 pricing? I took a look at this car:

http://orlando.craigslist.org/cto/5359687040.html

It's clean, interior's in good shape, and nothing seems out of the ordinary on a test drive. KBB is ~10.5k, but I'm not sure that is a valuable data point.

I bought a carfax and it looks like it has had 6 or 7 owners and had a front end accident very early in its life.

I'd obviously have a PPI done, but I don't know how much the high owners / accident impact price. Is this car a decent deal at 14k, or would I be overpaying?

Thanks!!

Need more details on its options, but based on being over 100k and that it is a tip, I'd say 13 is probably a bit more realistic. Especially this time of year.

Thanks for the insight. I believe it has a power driver's seat, cd player, and obviously is a tip. Definitely not full leather. Has zero maintenance records, and claims to have pretty new brakes and brand new tires. Seller also claimed the IMS bearing "has been done" but I called both dealers who had done all the service I could find on carfax, and there's no record of an IMS bearing service or any engine work.

Most IMSBs are done at indies so that doesn't surprise me, but if he can't/won't produce documentation then it's as good as if it hasn't been done.

I wouldn't put stock in it having the CD player (looks like tape holders in the center console, so I'm guessing it's the indash tape and frunk mounted changer). Unless you just want to keep the stock look you may very well upgrade to something more modern.

The lack of full leather is bad. Many people complain about the cheapness of the plastic bits you get without the leather. Look closely at the plastic bits for signs of wear, especially on the horseshoe (the trim "ring" on the dash around the stereo and AC units).

I'd still say 13k, but that's probably it's top end. Really it should be worth more, but that's what the market is

^^^^^

Full leather ages badly.
Yet to see a 100k+ car with full leather that looks good after 15 years. Owners stop caring about maintaining the leather 50,000 miles and many years ago.

The hell it does. Full leather is the best interior option you can get on these. At least in black.

We have 70k on our 01 and its spent its entire life living our side with no cover or sun shades. It's seen 110 degree days and its seen -2 days. We've only treated the leather a couple times its entire life.

The only issue with the leather is the dash has bubbled, but that's happened to garage queens too.

Compare that to our BMW that is less than half its age where the drivers bolster looks tan because the outer layer of black has rubbed off (and it did that years ago)

Porsche made some bad choices on the 996, but the leather they used for the full leather package wasn't one of them.
