I suspect you'll need a MOST adapter - I have the Avin unit. Hopefully the unit is plug and play into the wiring harness on the car and I don't need to move pins around. Here's my general plan from a write up in the boxster forum: https://rennlist.com/forums/boxster-...unit-swap.html
1) Get the Avin MOST converter:
https://avinusa.com/most-fiber-optic...n-boxster.html
2) Buy a cheap line output converter from crutchfield. Here's what I got:
https://www.crutchfield.com/p_161LC1...trol-LC1i.html
This unit will normalize your sound source and has a few options for solving for any ground loop issues that may give rise to whine or buzzing. Here's a helpful article on the topic:
https://www.crutchfield.com/S-qhZ6tT...0the%20problem.
3) Buy this generic wiring harness so you can easily plug into the factory wiring harness for power, remote on, and ground:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You just need the part with power. This will allow you to splice together power and other items for the Avin unit, the line output converter AND your chosen head unit.
From the wiring harness on the head unit you'll just run the front channel wires into the Speaker Inputs on the Line Output Converter, plug the RCA cables from the Avin unit into the L/R Outputs on the Line Output Converter then plug the Avin unit into the fiber optic MOST cable. After that, get everything positioned in the dash the way you want it. I recommend using some zip ties to keep things tidy and to avoid rattles and such as you're flogging your car.
This is an afternoon of work, you can use wire nuts or solder to do your splices, and you can get most of it put together outside the car. The steps above will let you bring the popular Continental units into your 986 with MOST or you can stretch and do the single DIN PCCM from Porsche (that's my plan). I can post some pics of the wiring harness I made for mine.
ALSO, if you're feeling lazy or want to keep it simple you can just hook up a bluetooth antenna like one for a marine application like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Audiopipe-Blu...s%2C104&sr=8-6
and hook it up to the Avin unit and just do bluetooth directly into your audio system. Downsides is no radio dials, you have to do it all from the phone and no display other than your phone.
Here's a wiring diagram that basically covers this topic. You'll just add the line output converter to the same chain of power/ground/etc

Model 8581 - 4G - 64GB w LTE. After like a month of messages with the seller, that's what they recommended. Total was like $251. They sent me a few videos of the unit and the function looks good. We went back and forth for a couple weeks confirming pinouts on the wiring harness and they claim to be sending me a free dashcam for the support on my end.

Yep. Stay tuned. I'll document it for sure.

I see that some other head units on Aliexpress offer add ons, like OBD reader and TPMS. That the same with this unit?

I have asked the seller, and the answer is yes, TPMS can be added. Need to get this:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005...836%21im%21%21
Can nalso get an OBD reader as well.

I'd be curious about an ODB reader.
My stereo continues to move in the shipping tracking. It is currently "Arrived at destination airport"

Awesome. Really curious about your experience. I have no idea if my unit can support that stuff or not.
THAT SAID - it's out for delivery RIGHT NOW- so, in the interest of content for the 9x6 community I will commit to doing the install this weekend instead of fixing the A/C on my e91.

That 'jut out' of the bezel on the top will be problematic for my 99 ... may have to do some shaving, sanding and painting of the bezel if mine is the same.

Here we go:
I had to shim the radio to hold it in the dash. That was the mot complicated part of the job. Moving the A/C wiring was a challenge just because it's a very tight space and you're in a weird position. I AM having an issue, however. The unit reboots as soon as I start moving and comes back when I stop. The only part of the vehicle really talking to the devices is the power. Could I have that wired incorrectly?
I'm gonna try disconnecting the yellow CANBUS harness and see what I get.

Nvm. It's definitely a power/wiring issue. I must have had the radio's switched power wired to the speed control for audio pilot. That said, I can't find a switched power line at all in my harness. The radio will just stay on regardless of what the ignition is doing. I'm fairly certain I've identified the power and ground. Pics in a bit.
Interestingly, the 101 projects book is not correct in its wiring diagram - at least for the CDR23 with Bose/MOST

Also interested in seeing a link for which exact unit you bought from.
