Good idea. I've asked one of the eBay sellers if they make it in 2.5 mm height in white (which I think is the same size as the one I previously got from an eBay seller in Thailand).
I decided to go a different route on my car and replaced the double din I had with an Atoto A6. This is a full Android Auto head unit that can be customized like any Android tablet, but also runs carplay. One draw to it was the ability to run torque for OBD stats realtime. Also the interface is completely customizable. If I wanted I could add TPMS sensors as well. This brings my 99 up to having all the features of a new car.

I have the ATOTO S8 and had to grind down the inside of the Metra bezel, another person with the same setup didn’t have to grind theirs, so I’m assuming the Metra piece is the issue. I broke the 1st one trying to make it fit. Found a post somewhere about grinding the bezel and used a sanding pad on my oscillating tool to grind the inside until it fit.
It is a tight fit for sure. I have done 3 of these now and only 1 of them I have had to sand to get to fit. The rest was just a tight squeeze. Good news is it doesn't move at all once it is mounted. Love this unit and it does everything great.

I tried 3 different MOST converters from Amazon, Cayenne, Mercedes-Benz, and one other w/o luck. I have the ATOTO S8 and paired it with a Soundstream 640.d amplifier (it’s small and mounted in the factory amp location w/ the factory bracket). It meant running 3 RCA cables through the firewall above the throttle pedal which wasn’t too difficult. I found the correct plug on Aliexpress to match the factory amp plug, so no cutting factory harness, and made a pigtail to go to the new amp.
