Question '03 Boxster CRD23 w/Bose (MOST) to CONTINENTAL TR7412UB stereo headunit swap

Hello,

I've searched all around looking for a plug-and-play solution for my 2003 Boxster with a CRD23 w/Bose (MOST) stereo head unit to my new CONTINENTAL TR7412UB head unit.

I've pulled the head unit out and it DOES have the optical wires.

Does anyone know how to easily solve this?

Thank you!

You could try a unit that converts analog out to MOST signals they used to be around but haven't seen many lately

20 year old car and 20+ year old technology. Plan on running new speaker wires.

Found this one:
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/16239531...xoCE-QQAvD_BwE

They aren't as easy to find anymore.

Re-wiring is a pain and often an ugly solution - I'm a fan of keeping as much as you can original...

Hmmm. Says it works with 2005-2011 Boxster. Not sure what (if anything) actually changed from the 2003…

Hello. Apologies for the necro - but I have solved this one. It's more involved than I'd prefer, but here's what I'll be doing on my 986 with cdr23, Bose (MOST) and no 6 disc changer:

1) Get the Avin MOST converter:
https://avinusa.com/most-fiber-optic...n-boxster.html

2) Buy a cheap line output converter from crutchfield. Here's what I got:
https://www.crutchfield.com/p_161LC1...trol-LC1i.html
This unit will normalize your sound source and has a few options for solving for any ground loop issues that may give rise to whine or buzzing. Here's a helpful article on the topic:
https://www.crutchfield.com/S-qhZ6tT...0the%20problem.

3) Buy this generic wiring harness so you can easily plug into the factory wiring harness for power, remote on, and ground:
Amazon Amazon
You just need the part with power. This will allow you to splice together power and other items for the Avin unit, the line output converter AND your chosen head unit.

From the wiring harness on the head unit you'll just run the front channel wires into the Speaker Inputs on the Line Output Converter, plug the RCA cables from the Avin unit into the L/R Outputs on the Line Output Converter then plug the Avin unit into the fiber optic MOST cable. After that, get everything positioned in the dash the way you want it. I recommend using some zip ties to keep things tidy and to avoid rattles and such as you're flogging your car.

This is an afternoon of work, you can use wire nuts or solder to do your splices, and you can get most of it put together outside the car. The steps above will let you bring the popular Continental units into your 986 with MOST or you can stretch and do the single DIN PCCM from Porsche (that's my plan). I can post some pics of the wiring harness I made for mine.

ALSO, if you're feeling lazy or want to keep it simple you can just hook up a bluetooth antenna like one for a marine application like this:
Amazon Amazon

and hook it up to the Avin unit and just do bluetooth directly into your audio system. Downsides is no radio dials, you have to do it all from the phone and no display other than your phone.

Here's a wiring diagram that basically covers this topic. You'll just add the line output converter to the same chain of power/ground/etc
