about an hour ago I sold the drivers side front fender I bought for the 996 and never put on after my parking lot incident... the original was repaired so this has been in my garage for ? 2 years ?
had listed it on craigslist for $300, then lower lower lower lower and longer longer longer till today when someone gave me $100 for it
damn....it felt good to loose so much money on that...I really just am so happy to see it gone!!
well, now to go to the classifieds and find something to fill the spot in the garage!

And again. Yesterday, beatufil afternoon and I am on a familiar country road heading to my house. Fantastic driving roads. Come to a 4 way stop, follow the rules of who goes next and as I proceed one of those tank like GM SUV's was next to go and ends up behind me. I typically top triple digits on this particular stretch... I am at 90 and this monstor truck is on my tail and it is obvious that the driver is going to show me they can stay with the Porsche. Here's the thing though, lot's of twisties and the challenging ones are on significant upgrades and they are dangerous. So rather than tempt the idiot behind me into doing something stupid I back mine down. The road comes to a split and you can go left or straight, either way you come to a stop sign and either way after the stop if you make a left you are on the same road. I guess the SUV thought they would show me, because even though I took the left at the split and they went straight they ended up barreling past me when I was at the second stop sign. For a moment I wished I would have made my usual experienced run and watched them lose it. But, safety first, pride second, I guess.

nothing more comforting than being on a "burst" and having a monster vehicle with poor tires and no ability to stop if needed AND an inattentive driver holding the wheel one handed with a cell phone or cheeseburger in the other hand, riding your ***!
like you say, gonna show the sports car my Cummings Diesel 50000 is fast!
good call to let it go, and although I don't condone speeding on public roads, I know we all have our spots where we burst for a few seconds in relative safe ways, but please be careful, and try to keep the higher speeds on closed circuits

So the good news for me is that my car got accepted to be on display at the Rennsport Reunion IV - History of the Porsche 911 display in October...
And the bad news is that I want my car to look extra nice for that, so today I opened my wallet to get a new front wheel... as a nasty curb rash it got last week can't be refinished as the 40th Anniversary wheels have a special ball polished finish... (and if anyone is counting that was the last Anniversary model wheel in stock in the US and there's 279 left in Germany)....

Yes, I know the parking lot incident was on the driver's side. I'm just trying to enhance your "buying things that don't fit" reputation.

Only tangentially related, but a friend of mine had a '68 Camaro way back when. In the early 70's someone slid into it when it was parked and destroyed the rear quarter panel and tail light. He decided to order the parts and have the shop class at a local high school do the work. He had the crated OEM panel, and complete tail light assembly in his father's garage, but never got around to having the car repaired. 30 years later, his father calls him and tells him to get rid of them. He puts an ad in the local paper for the amount he paid ...$125. The guy who picked them up acted like he was robbing a bank and couldn't wait to get out of there with the parts.

funny how we hold onto something for 30 years, then one day give it away for $100!!
I bought a shotgun from the 20's or 30's last weekend for $25...it was "Grandpa's" and like you said, I felt like I was robbing the bank and ran out the door with a big grin....till I got home and my wife ask me WTF I bought another gun for

Was on a test run this afternoon, just finished installing new Zimmerman front rotors and new pads, and dampeners driving on a 2 lane country road and 3 Harleys pull up pretty close behind me before turning at a stoplight. Up ahead are 3 or 4 cars and a large dump truck, so doing the 35 mph speed limit is almost impossible. Finally after several miles the coast is clear with no traffic to slow us down, so I wind out 2nd gear, grab 3rd and the bikers were quite a bit behind me, but finally catch up. Then more traffic, but we were able to have spurts of speed. Finally no more cars ahead, 1 Harely passes me on a double yellow line, I downshift and stay right with him while his pals are behind me for a final 2 miles or so, then I had to make a left turn, so I stuck my arm out the window with a thumbs up, and 1 of the bikers yelled "you did okay, nice". I may have gone slightly over the posted speed, but my car and new front brakes allowed me to enjoy my ride today.
