Last night, BBC America dusted off some older Top Gears -- and what do we see?....an Arctic Silver (probably) 996 C2 driven through the countryside and on a wide beach in Wales.

What struck me is just how nice the car looks & sounds (headlights and all). I can think of no other car where staunch traditionalists would have made such a stink over headlights. The 996 really looked nice on the back roads. :-)

Actually, it's fun when you see someone's face change when they "get it." It's not the fastest, loudest, biggest engine, loudest-styling....it's the balance of all the factors.

I (almost shamefully) admit that I constantly peruse car reviews looking for my "next" car. I find others that would be acceptable. But none have such a nice combination of practicality, dependability, economy, performance, etc., etc. -- all at once. And while a new one would be nice, the combination isn't any better than what I have...so, I'm happy with the 996.

I do the same. I try my best not to stop by the dealer to test drive the newer cars

Trust me, I have been tempted (very)...

Problem for me is.....o-o-o-o-o...shiny thing....must. take. home. (Must be part cat.)

One of the things that help me rein in my mindless enthusiasm is asking, what will I be capable of doing after I get this thing that I can't do now?

That doesn't mean it won't follow me home anyway, but gives me some perspective on what I'm getting for the money. Is it something that will genuinely expand my life, or just another way of doing what I'm doing now.

Was driving by the local dealer and saw this, the iPhone pic does not do it justice ... it's VERY pink!
I have seen the car around town before

I'm the same way as I would love to have a 997.2 C2S with full aero kit (sort of a GT3 look-alike) but then figure is it worth paying another $40k+ to purchase that vehicle when what I have now is so capable? So far the answer has been no but in the future who knows?

Happened a couple of weekends back but just remembered...

Ready to head upstate I have all of my stuff packed and have the frunk lid open waiting for my wife to come out with her stuff. Half an hour later I go into the house and ask my wife what the hold up is. "You have the hood up, I thought you were working on the engine."

On Saturday, my wife and I were separately running some errands, and we met at a restaurant for lunch. I pulled into the lot and parked the car. As I was approaching the front door, two guys about 25 years old stopped me and said "Your Porsche sounds great! Is that stock exhaust or aftermarket?" We talked about PSE for a couple of minutes and they left and I had lunch with my wife.

I nearly fell out of my chair last weekend when my wife said, "Maybe I should get you some storage cabinets for the garage. Then you could get the garage floor sealed or covered or whatever it is you guys do to garage floors."

She gets it!

How does the 997.2 PSE sound compared to the 996 PSE.... I hear that the 6 sounds better... More bark. But never really heard the 7.2 PSE, would love to get them side by side and do a compare.

@ Bill - funny!!

@ Ferd - I also heard the 996 headlights were better

for me: I thought the season was kinda short and I could have used more track days...here is what I hit...somehow it left an empty feeling of wanting more
