My kid need braces, my wife's car need a water pump, timing belt, cam seals, crank seal and valve cover gaskets, the P-car just ate a wheel bearing and hub, property taxes due the end of the month....
my p-car experience for the day is reminiscent of PhilG...I sat in the garage and made car sounds till the window was wet with spit

Tues. night I went to a Breast Cancer fund raiser for a local hospital, it had rained hard for several days, the grounds were saturated with water. So I pull up to a parking volunteer who says,"I'm sorry, but you'll have to park that beautiful car across the field"(getting muddy), and I said that's okay. I drove another 50' or so and another parking volunteer stops me and says, "you can't park that car in the field, park it right here and I'll watch it for you". Now, my Porsche is a MY99 and had seen rain for a couple of days so it was not clean and pristine, but these 2 people thought I was in an exotic car. That has never happened to me before, even when my Porsche looked immaculate.

So this afternoon I stop at my dealer to check on a couple of things - work is nuts and I havn't
slept in over 24 hours so I grab a cup of that free coffee and head to the shop to ask the mechanic a couple of questions. I stop and talk to the service manager and b.s. for awhile. Talked about how good my car has been and the rewards for timely and proper maintainence, how it pays off to stay on top of even minor repairs. I finally figure traffic should be light enough that in my tired and rather irritable state that I will head home, about a 12 mile ride or so. As soon as I pull out of the lot the car starts making this loud creaking sound from the passengers side. I am like, crap, you got to be kidding me, car was perfect when I parked it. I play with the remote mirror, reach for the A/C vent, it is driving me nuts. The wife calls and I am bitching about how I can't freakin' stand this freakin' rattle and how I won't drive the car again until it is fixed and I moan about it until she can't take it and tells me to call her when I get to the house. I hit the country roads and the rattle is worse and I am reaching across the car pushing on the door speaker, door compartment, anything and everything and I am truly out of my mind at this point. I pull in the garage, go around to the passenger side inspecting the exterior and then I open the passengers side door thinking it must be the a/c vent and as I go to sit on the passengers side seat I find the problem.
Luckily I am quite mechanically adept and immediately sigh in relief because I just know I can fix this myself.
And then I reach down and remove the styrofoam coffe cup that I must have wedged between the outer edge of the passenger side seat and door as I was leaving the dealer.
But hey, to my credit, I didn't jump on line and ask about the IMS.

Whoa, you drink on your car? I don't even drink in it!
Was grocery shopping today when I returned to the car and started it up. Gentleman in the car next to me came around, looked at me (and car) and said, "I just have to tell you how absolutely beautiful that sounded when you started it up." Big grins, said thanks, wished great day.

The wife usually picks up our daughter from school in the afternoons but she was busy and I was working from home yesterday so I got nominated for duty.
Pull up to the front of the school and of course all of the middle school boys have their jaws dropped and eyes wide opened. One of the teachers who is directing traffic yells really loudly, "Who's Porsche is this? Who rides in this Porsche???" My daughter is pretty shy but handles it with grace as she has all eyes on her while she walks to the car.
The teacher then pokes his head in my car and says, "You know the closest I ever got to one of these was a Triumph TR4 that I used to have. I even took it up to 140 MPH while hanging on for dear life!" I responded by telling him, "Cool car - I bet at that speed it felt more like 200! This one hasn't been up to those speeds yet but maybe one day it'll happen."
He then waves me by and my daughter says, "As usual you always find a new friend everywhere we go." I told her, "It's not me, it's the car!"

nice - its funny how many people feel the need to tell you how fast they once drove a car....I think the car gives them a chance to re-live that moment in their mind...which is kinda cool
