I have a good one that happened to me recently.

I just purchased my C4S and went to have a smog check and during the smog check I heard a loud bang and saw my car shake violently on the dyno. When I asked what was that, the Technician asked if this was a 4WD vehicle. I said, "dude that's what C4S means." He said he didn't know and running the car on a 2 wheel dyno caused the viscous coupling, and other severe damage to the front differential assembly. The shop's insurance covered 100% of the bill and it was repaired at Hergesheimer Motorsports in Lake Forest, CA.

http://www.hergesheimer.com/

Moral of the story - C4S drivers please ensure that our cars are only dynoed on a 4WD dyno system and not on a 2 wheel dyno.

I live in a city with a LOT of Porsche's which I love very much!

today cruising in I see a 996 C4S about 1/4 mile ahead of me..as I work thru traffic to try and get closer I think..what...that's a Cayman not a C4S - how could I have mistaken....OHHHH there is the C4S in front of the Cayman...so I zip up on the Cayman who changes lanes and slows slightly.....

hahaha - It's Mike (old owner of my 996 and 3.2)

Nice Cayman! then in my mirror I see a 996 Cab pull in behind us....4 P-cars cruising to work....shortly together then everyone went their own ways, but I assume all have the same smile I have right now!!!

Hey Ed, that is awesome. It is amazing how many P-cars there are here. You can always tell a 911 enthusiast by whether they wave back or not!

I saw a beautiful GP White Boxter Spyder yesterday- what a gorgeous car!

I stop for a slice of pizza for lunch, there are a bunch of bikes blocking the sidewalk and entryway. Four kids, about 8-10 years old. Owner is telling them they have to put on shirts in the restaurant. I don't say a word but I want to smack them to learn a little respect. I eat and go to leave.

They're in the parking lot, and as I drive off they tell me what a great car I have. I was sort of glad I wasn't the a-hole in the Porsche to the little bastards.

I pulled into the local Mobil gas station to fill up my 996. I saw a clean, Fly-yellow 355 Ferrari pulling up too. He cut my path and pulled to the other side of my intended pump. I thought he was going to yield. Oh well, we both get out and fill our respective cars.

As I was leaving, a man in his mid-40’s, filling up his truck from another pump about 25 feet away, said in a loud voice to me, “. . .besides, I like yours better!” I guess he saw the “cut” and made the comment. I didn’t have a good come-back but gave him a thumbs-up and said, “Mine is also cheaper to maintain.”

For the first 10 years or so of my driving life, my cars were only cars in the technical sense. I learned to stay vigilant for strange sounds and smells. I have the ability to sense infinitely small vapors of antifreeze like a shark can discern a tiny drop of blood in the vast ocean.

Today I get a whiff of antifreeze and feel my adrenaline building. All of the possible costly outcomes race through my mind until I realize that I'm not driving my Porsche, but riding my bicycle.
