OK well all the planets aligned last night I guess!!
I had planned to hit the shop in celebration of me finishing machining a billet float bowl for a 67' solex set up..this car has been in restoration for "some time" and they had been looking for a bowl for a "long time" with no success...I made a beauty and beers were in order.....
so I show up and there is the 356 Speedster with top down all polished up as I pull up...SWEET...Oh, the 86' Turbo Track car is getting its new motor put in....(love this car) Walk in and there is a very early 60's Super 90...and I am told it is "Number ONE!" as in the very first super 90 ever made, in flawless restored condition....
WOW, what a treat....two other beauties a 67' and a 74' that normally would be top eye candy got little of my attention
Turns out this weekend is the biggest Northwest Concourse show so the special cars are coming out of the wood...along with the special owners! I talked extensively with someone for about 2 hours and we drank some beers, laughed, and were amazed by the stories. Later two more fellas showed up in the most amazing color combo 997 Turbo S I have ever seen and the place is busting with laughter and fun...
I have to say, owning a Porsche is a real friendly, generational, money, gender bridging experience...no one cared or noticed I was "just a machinist" or a blue collar guy, the shop guys and I naturally get along, but these higher level owners are just as friendly and fun to hang out with as I could have imagined...
now maybe its stupid to even say, but.... I thought it was pretty cool...
If you have not hooked up with your fellow Porsche peeps in a while..get out there, you are apart of something pretty special and they want to talk with you and share good times...I wasnt planning to go to the concourse but after all the badgering to show up, I will be heading there tomorrow - I will take a few pics
anyone else heading over?

Nice story and I agree about Porsche enthusiasts being friendly and approachable, no matter what their background. Blessed be the cheese makers.

Not that I'm a high level owner, but I am a white collar type. I really appreciate the skills of the guys that keep these cars running and even make them better. After all, the engineering aspects of these cars are half the fun of owning them.
When I retire I hope I have time to develop some of the skills you have. The only way that will happen is if I hang with people like you.
Good story and I wish you had snapped some pics of the eye candy.

Nice story Ed. The common denominator is the interest in the Porsche brand and an appreciation of such a capable car regardless of which model you might own. Have a blast.

Periodically I go to the annual, PNWR (NW PCA) concours prep event to learn about the latest suggestions for waxes, cleaning solutions, etc. Very good information.
I'm more of a drive it and just have it look presentable than a concours enthusiast. This was reinforced at one of the prep events when they claimed that a brand new, never driven Porsche, trucked to a concours event would score about 85 on their 100pt scale. Ugh.
Haven't done much "Porsche" lately other than drive it to the hangar to:
Make an open cockpit version of the glider. (Two Cabs!)

And fit new canopies to the glider. (combined over 4 weeks of long hours each day)
I need to do some PNWR events to regain some balance!

James, I saw a glider looking plane yesterday over the east of Renton about the south tip of M.I. thought it might be you because the thing had an enormous wingspan... it had the high wings and horizontal stabilizer on top of the vertical stabilizer...strange
anyhow, thought of you and figured you would be out getting your thermals! Glad to see the weather giving us a break!

I've seen it too. I think it's a Taifun.

Actually, these bright clear, hazy days are motoring only days. Days with big puffy clouds on the verge of showers are great thermalling days.
But hey....open cockpit, leather flying helmet & goggles -- pretty good. Just have to remember to take them off for the 996 so I don't get pulled over by the DUI patrols.

I had a good laugh - a few weeks ago I am in traffic, nice early evening with windows down and while stopped at a traffic light a white cadillac pulls up on my left. I notice an attractive young lady in the passenger seat and notice her window going down. She waves enthusiastically and asks how I am doing, I say I am doing good, and ask how she is doing. She says " I am doing just GREAT and I am loving your car, it's beautiful". I smile and tell her she should start saving so she can have one someday, she says "oh, I am thinking I would look fantastic driving yours" and I laugh - and then she says "your car would look even better if I was in the passenger seat". I chuckled and then the light turned green, she waved as they pulled away. I laughed almost the entire way home. I told two of my son's the story and they were both like "yeah right dad, in your dreams".
