It couldn't have been set up better. My neighbor and I were in the garage last evening....he is kinda of a car guy. We're talking, scratching, spitting, you know, guy stuff. I had gotten back from a 300 mile trip down the Mississippi and back to see my daughter and had cleaned up my 03 C4S, yesterday. (BTW, no IMS/RMS problems this time, either. I guess I dodged another bullet.)
"So," he says, while standing in
FRONT of the car. "Lemme see the engine."
Ya know, God help me, but when I have been set up like this, like the planets are in alighn, I just can't help myself.
"Sure," I says, as I opened the door to hit the trunk swit ch.
"There has been a problem here in St. Paul with guys STEALING Porsche engines" I added.
He, let's call him Billy, because, well, that's his name. So, Billy hits the safety latch, opens the frunk while we talk about people stealing Porsche engines.
I watch the "man points" drain from his eyes when he gets it open and ............
I am not a mean guy.....and he can tell some stories about me. But, it was JUST TO GOOD OF AN OPPORTUNITY TO PASS UP!!
Now I am going to my room to think about what I did

Pretty funny you mention that as yesterday I was getting out of my kickboxing class and as I'm putting my gym bag in the trunk one of the new students asks "if everything is okay?"
I respond, "Sure, just putting my bag away!"
Then I got the same look you probably got from your friend where he immediately realized what had happened!

Some light hearted stuff is in order this week ehhh...
I was heading into work yesterday and a yellow 86' came up behind me on the freeway and pulled up along side... we both gave each other a big ole' It reminded me of the day in the 996 when there were 3 of us side by side (one with a pre-teen boy on the edge of his seat) all smiling and giving each other a
Be happy you are lucky enough to drive such an awsome car. Very capable, powerful, beautiful and well adapted for real driving!
- lets go drive before the rain comes (too late in Seattle, its here) go drive anyhow

This did not happen to me but wanted to share......So I did a DE this past weekend. I have learned to make sure your lugs are torqued before I leave for the track each day. Its something we all need to do and has become to be a natural reaction for me in getting ready in the morning. Anyways mid afternoon a rich kid who had been driving his brand new Audi A5 came of the track with a rattle in his left rear tire. He drove up the paddock and back down and could not figure out what it was. He grabbed his instructor thinking he would know. They drove a little further and the left rear started to turn at a 30 degree angle away from the car. They stopped the car and initially thought the axle had snapped....but no fluid was seen. After closer inspection the lugs came loose and the tire was about to have a mind of its own. The Audi's have a wheel cover to go over the lugs so it was not obvious to the driver. But I gotta tell you..that is a prime example why to torque your lugs (yourself). This averted a huge disaster.

Love the new avatar Pete !!
yea, I find that one side of my car tends to "loosen" up after a couple sessions. I have thought about switching to steel nuts (on the 86' they are ALUMINUM !!) but as long as I keep an eye on it I feel OK.. never had one become actually "loose" but just not fully torqued? (maybe 5-10 lbs light)
I spent last night changing the oil, felt good to get that done. I have to get some new shocks and...... you know the list goes on

Thanks Ed! This was taken during some heavy braking over the weekend. Had a great time dueling with a early 2000's M3.
I remember the alum lugs on my '86 too. They sure can get scratched up fast if your not careful.

Man I am pissed... last Thursday was our last DE of the year... its been cold and rainy and I said... "I am not spending my DE money on a "rain out" so I opted to not sign up.... then it turned out to be sunny and near 80
so to make up for it - an am very happy to report that today I get to drive a 911.
so many days like this I cant wait to get in the car and head to work. Seems to never get old, in fact I feel better everyday. The thrill of owning a Porsche is only met with one negative......I didnt do it sooner !!
For those of you driving today - for those of you still waiting, you will be kicking yourself later for waiting so long.... DO IT !!
ENJOY !

Keep these facts in mind: I am 19 y/o, I have an 01 Boxster S, and I bought it in Feb.
Last month I was meeting some friends at Applebees for dinner. I parked my car right next to the building and right next to a yellow Cayman S that had been modded a bit. I go inside an we end up sitting right next to a window where we have a perfect view of my Boxster and the Cayman.
My friends and I were talking about and looking at the Porsches when our waiter comes up and says "Why are you looking at those cars? They're a waste of money!". Obviously we all knew one was my car so my friends were like "uhhhhhhhh, um" and I started laughing. The waiter goes "Are those your cars?", I say " Yeah the black one is mine. What do YOU drive?". Stunned, he says " Oh sorry, I drive an old blahblahblah(nothing special)"
I asked him why they're a waste of money and how much he thinks my car costs. He says because they're not that cool/fast and that you could spend the money on a much better car. I ask him again how much he thinks it costs. "Um, probably around $150,000". Everyone at my table started laughing and I felt like a boss.
And no, I didn't bother to correct him.

I agree that the perception is that these cars are worth big money. I think if word got out that you can get into a 996 for around $20K, demand from the general public would go up. Hey, maybe that would drive the price up

Agreed. Unless you are active on various Porsche forums, you might not know of the current pricing and deals that are out there. As mentioned, the general public would most likely over value our 911s(which would be nice if we were selling).
