I sent one of the springs I had to nycebo on Monday. He should have it today or tomorrow, was going to try it out, and if it feels right on his car one of us will buy a quantity of them for resale at cost (~$10 + postage) to the list.

BTW, how do we compress the spring to release it slowly, and to fit the lighter one in the housing?

It's possible to just grip the cartridge with both hands and compress the end down on the work bench if you have a helper to remove the cotter pin or nail that you used to secure the piston. This is what I did, but a vise is probably a better option (in spite of having a large inventory of tools, MIG welder, 60 gal. air compressor, 12 ton hydraulic press, etc., I still don't have a vise). Be sure to protect the end that fits the pin on the pedal so that you don't break it by applying force in a place that it wasn't designed to handle. A suitably-sized piece of steel stock or screwdriver, supported by wood blocks, will work for that.
The compressed spring is exerting over 90 lbs. of force, so you definitely want to exercise caution and wear safety glasses or a face shield when you do this.

So far, I make +1.

And, my CC works fine without the spring for some reason.
