Hey guys,

I just got the spring from Doug (thanks again for the idea and sending me the spring to test) yesterday. I'm going to install it tomorrow, do some comparison tests (full OEM spring, half spring, and removed) and then get back to you all to finalize the order (having toyed around with the half rate spring, it is quite firm nonetheless, so I'm thinking it's a very good compromise). Indeed, at that point, I'll create a thread for the group buy so that it's easy for everyone to see. Here's who has expressed interest so far:

Just removed mine last night. It is a little too stiff for my old left leg. But, stock is toooooooo soft. I am in for the half force spring.

I wonder how Porsche chose the heavy spring - trial and error, until a 10 year old could use the clutch?

FWIW I've been driving around without the spring assist for a couple of weeks now and I don't even notice it being stiffer. It's still easier than the foot clutch on my old Harley Panhead, and probably easier than the hand clutch on my Heritage Softail.

Give it some time and I think with the much improved feel, will forget about it being a little harder. I have my seat in the lowest setting and back tilted so maybe it gives me some sort of mechanical advantage with my leg angle???

I have a 2000 and the clutch is way to heavy without the spring. I love that I can now feel the clutch pick up. One of my only complaints with the car before. I was going to put the spring back it as the car will not be enjoyable anymore when I hit traffic. Hopefully the GB spring will be a good compromise.

OK, I tried putting back the spring, to see how it compares to the no-spring clutch, and, to see if I could do it for when I get the half power spring.

Anyway, I could NOT get the pin back in the original way. No matter how I tried, the bracket get's in the way, and there's no room to maneuver the pin back into the pedal. I had to put the spring in the other way, but now the retaining clip wont go on (because of the extra plastic that holds the nut side of the pin).

What do I do? Is that retaining clip needed? If it is, how do I get the pin in when there's no room the other way??

Just did the mod - a bit of a pain getting all the way under but once I decided to use some muscle and leverage, I got it out no problem. At first it seemed very hard but after 5 minutes, I decided this was a significant improvement. There is simply no lag. The engagement is quick and smooth. I feel that I am now driving the car as it should be driven. My acceleration and shifts are much quicker. I am not going back and don't think I want to go to a mod spring. The fact that you don't have nearly as much pedal travel, imo, more than makes up for the slight increase in pedal pressure.

Keep in mind that pre-mod, you had much more travel so even with less pressure, I think over the long haul you'll end up with more of a work out than with more pressure and less travel - if that makes sense.
