Low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI)
Per Wiki:Low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI), also known as stochastic pre-ignition (SPI),[1] is a pre-ignition event that occurs in gasoline vehicle engines when there is a premature ignition of the main fuel charge.[2] LSPI is most common in certain turbocharged direct-injection vehicles operating in low-speed and high-load driving conditions.[3]
LSPI events are random and infrequent, and their effects on impacted vehicles can include very high-pressure spikes, loud knocking noises and sometimes catastrophic engine damage.[4] It's commonly known as "Detonation or Knock". Engine management systems can overcome pre ignition by the means or a knock or detonation sensor. The sensor will detect pre ignition and retard the engines timing to protect the engine from damage. Un desired engine behaviour will occur such as loss of performance or power. The issue mainly affects the U.S. car market as their fuel is of varying quality. The R.O.N. (Research Octane Number) is lower on Petroleum Distilate (Gasoline/Petrol) than the U.K.

Many only believe that LSPI impacts ts DFI engines, but reading the connecting rod bearings over the past few years has proven that it is also occurring with port injected engines. Wear patches directly under the rod beam are appearing just like were first observed with 9a1 engines when FSI first noted LSPI traits.

Blew my mind in previous years that you could pick up what was an $80K-$100k full fledged Porsche 911 with low miles for (well) under $30k. Prices aren't re-surging, they're going where they should have been all along, much like other Porsche's that got hated on at one point.

911 manual coupes always return to sticker, and highly desirable flavors go far beyond. The cabs and tips trail somewhat behind. Hated 964 was no exception, and neither is despised 996. Just takes a little more time for the ugly ducklings to soar. And 996 will absolutely soar

Harm Lagaay’s 996 design was so good it cannot be improved by “imagineering”
And the few flaws in mechanical execution are easily remediated
996 as GOAT 911 is only a matter of (a little more) time
Post-modern masterpiece: you will see it

The art world is just now awakening to what Ferry and Harm accomplished in 996. It’s all downhill to six and seven figures from right here…
We said it would happen for twenty five straight years and very few believed
The time is now
