I hope everyone is enjoying the 996 awakening as I am. For years you could barely find a 996 video on YouTube. Today there are hundreds if not more. Well deserved attention.

I’m not really enjoying the 996 awakening all that much. I remember when I used to see ‘99 XAA coupes for $19k and turbos for $35k… I would take those days back tbh

Sorry boys. Used car market just topped.

But it's ok, I'm keeping mine.

Doesn't matter to me either if it topped or not. The 996 is on everyone's radar.

I'm 50/50 these camps. I love feeling cool - who doesn't?

I also used to enjoy buying them and the thought of buying more...

This is mr993's old car. This car supposedly sold for over $70K at Amelia this year, so not sure how the dealer is making any money selling for $70 which means the Amelia auction sale was likely b$. That being said, I had the opportunity to buy this car from Porsche Conshohockin in Dec 2019 for $30K lol. I passed as it needed an IMS, and countless other things. Its worth more than $30 now for sure, not anywhere close to 70 though

Love the C4S. Don't get why it's going for turbo prices but the market will adjust over time as it always does to supply and demand.

Maybe someone is buying them up to produce Safaris. Or maybe their is a boatload of manipulation going on in the digital auction market.

It is a curious thing. Their performance is clearly a step up from the Carrera 2, and the wide body tail end is great looking, but the price delta between the two is hard to comprehend.

What performance of a 4s is 'clearly a step up' over that of a Carrera (2) in your book?

The 4s is too heavy for the power it has. Here in Houston I drove my car already all modify and a stock 4s, back to back. my car was faster. Right now for a bit more you buy a turbo instead of a 4S, that makes a lot more sense to me and you don’t have to deal with all the possible issues of the M96 engine.

You're right, it is. https://www.goodingco.com/lot/2002-p...96-carrera-4s/

Sold at $72,800. 86K miles, no service records, 10% buyer's fee...

...I think someone is going to be losing money when all is said and done.

M96 engine issues are easy as heck to prevent today. However, your service costs are going thru the roof with your turbo in relation to the c4s and c2. But, you do get more hp and have the ability to get more performance from software enhancements.

Funny you say that. Seems that alot of folks bidding up c4s prices don't know that the 996.2 c2 is lighter, more nimble and faster than the c4s. But you do get 4 awd, turbo brakes and an extra radiator.

All of which most folks will never need.

Guys, before we get into the 4S vs 2 thing again, that car is Zanzibar red. A clean 996 C2 in Zanzibar red would be worth just as much.

Okay, now that we've cleared that up. The 4S is the vastly superior machine. Excellence magazine tested all 996 variants on a track where the 4S walloped the carrera 2 by a whopping margin of 1 second.

Hahahaha. Must have been an inexperienced driver.

Make no bones about it. Love both derivations.
