That jalopnik story about BaT was a great read.

The community on BaT is truly it's most valuable asset.

Buying a car on Bat is
like not being able to look under the skirt to see what you get before you buy. No way no one can do a proper PPI with a 7 seven day schedule. If you go to Amsterdam down the red district you see what you are buying displayed in glass right there in Front of you. Also there is no 5 percent fee. Buy whatever you want, is your money and you can spend it as you wish. I ain’t buying a targa that’s going to blow up on my way home!!!! If you hang around the Porsche club events a lot of horror stories with 996/997s. Be careful.

The E46 M3 (especially) offers incredible value for money - even at the current prices. E46 M3 & 996 GT3 - pretty much good as it gets (for me).

The CSL no longer represents value for money - not when the "standard" E46 M3 is 1/4 the price like for like.

If I could only have one though - that is a tricky question. Probably I'd (still) lean towards the E46 - and I'd drive the wheels off it.

Default $65.5k to $55.5k

That could be attributable to the overzealous BaT audience and bidders. A BaT premium perhaps.

My sense is that Cars & Bids, pcarmarket and the other auction sites do not generally pull the prices that BaT does.

As my grandfather who raised 17 children and never had more than a 6th grade education used to say mistakes in life are paid with money. Anyway when I’m bidding on a car I look at all the details and set my max price counting in the auction fee, not any different than buying a stock. I believe they are a bunch of people that get caught up in the auction like in Las Vegas casinos chasing their own money. Today a 2000 coupe 90k miles 6 speeds with recent clutch, rms, IMs, aos sold for $22k including the fees on pcar market. That’s my type of car a driver and in today’s market that’s a good deal. I didn’t bought because it’s way too similar to my car, if it was a 3.6 I would have put a little more in it.

In addition, the buyer on BaT (who is the seller on CaB) is 33 years old. Just bought their first Porsche. And it's not quite what they were looking for.

Personally I wouldn't have bought that car without a proper PPI. Something off with that seller.

Nothing wrong with automatic 996s or any other model. My beef is with self driving electric cars that take all the fun out of the driving experience. He'll, if you drive the 991s and 992s in automatic, the computer synchronizes the revs and shifts much faster on the track than playing with the paddles yourself or shifting a 7 speed manual.

But what if the younger generation wants the novelty? My bet is they will.
They will.

Being in another hobby already my experience has already shown this.

Younger generation comes in to an older hobby, sees what the old people think is cool and they want it. It's been happening for decades in fashion, music, cars and anything else you can think of.

That's not to say there's anything wrong with that either. BAT just has a larger audience it reaches. I'd sell a car on BAT but would never buy. Certainly wouldn't buy a BAT car then list it no reserve on CAB lol.

Quoting the seller in the auction discussion: "I want a gt3 or gt4, something a little more harsh. The 996 c4s is great and specifically this one is beautiful and I love it but I’m not in love with it."

I'm sure we can all relate to cross-shopping 996 C4S and 718 GT4

I got to drive my buddies new 718 GT4 last weekend. Still prefer my 996 4s and 997.2 4s given the choice. The new GT4 RS on the other hand.........

As much as this guy may have lost money chasing something to love, I’ve found it actually costs more once you DO find your true love, lol.

$34,250 final selling price, $35,800 with fees. I'd say that stands as a testament to the value of a FSI engine in a car.
