Yes but he lives such an interesting life! And he's such a savvy investor. Think of all the sage advice that we'd miss out on of he stopped with his essays.

25k 2004 4s cab 6 speed hits $46k on BaT yesterday and doesn’t meet reserve!! As we approach the 1 year anniversary of this thread’s creation this non sale demonstrates “prices drifting up” quite clearly. This was a low $30k vehicle pre-covid.

Are y'all using Bring a Trailer as the only data point? It looks like with the wider audience BaT is fetching higher prices compared to Cars & Bids and PCar Market. Even the 996 Turbos on Cars & Bids are significantly less expensive than on BaT.

I am just glad he was kind enough to not only post them here, but also in the 'New Oil Analysis' thread at the same time.

The 4S stuff on BaT has gone wild. I don't have the energy to look/back this up but I think 996 C4S have risen more (gained value) than 996 "regular" turbos (non X50/S). That's just my gut feeling while watching from the stands.

Online auction sales have become a game that dealers are playing. Think about it. You can throw whatever you want online, say whatever you want, and see what sticks. Most importantly, it's bought at a distance where no one has to look anybody directly in the eyes.

You can also see that prices are consolidating. Stimulus money has ended, millenials are thinking thru their next steps, and dealers continue to be squeezed with new and used inventory looking for ways to generate revenue.

And the games continue...

I would bet a bottle of Luis' favorite whiskey, that the majority of folks on this thread tracking prices, those buying on BAT and the majority of new 996 owners are Millenials.

The Millenial generation is the largest population group in the history of the US, far superior in numbers than Boomers. And Millenials are now entering their rising earnings years from 40-65.

Whether it's an extra $1600 or not, they are the major buying force.

I will 100% concede that they may fit the age definition of a millenial, but anyone buying a car on BAT is going to be the exception, not the rule

The sales prices on cars and bids actually look reasonable and pretty much in line with the prices I saw when I was shopping for a 996 in the second half of 2020
