Not sure but I've had 996's in the garage since 2004, before that a air cooled targa and a turbo. If slowly coasting up to a light I sometimes will drop it Into 1st instead of using the brakes, prob never over 2-3k rev and have never encountered an issue in 30 yrs. I've also used 2nd as a starting gear but not a big fan of it as I don't think the possible lugging is great for the engine .
I was taught to never downshift into 1st gear when coming to a stop.. regardless of what car it is.. stuck with me for 30 years..
all times high and long term going higher. Wait till the aaple car comes. Also after installing the fabspeed xpipe on my car yesterday and last night test driving in the HOV lane yes supersonic, I’m more and more in love with the car. The sound after 4 rpms is intoxicating, i wish I had dyno access, because this thing really woke up the car. Now I’m more tempted than ever to drop down two gears and hit the hammer almost all the way to redline.

Sounds like you need a track day and then a bbq. So do I.

I worry about the “lugging” in 2nd when I do California Stops. Then again in my 20s I had an ‘81 280ZX 5 speed that I used to downshift into first gear all the time, and that car made it to 235k miles. If she hadn’t been totaled by an 18 wheeler while parked there’s no telling how long that lady would have lived. Still miss that car. Always will (as he opens his wallet to show you an old photo…) 😢

I had an '82 Maxima for 18 years and 245000 miles. Never burned a drop of oil. I now own a 2000 maxima with 175000. Same thing. Great engines. '03 911 Carrera 4S safely in the garage, under her cover, for the winter.
