Default Ask the engine god which 996 he prefers.

The early 99 are actually the best. The ones that were built mostly by hand next to the last of the 993. Ask Jake Raby which one is better built. As someone has stated on this forum even thf doors sound different when you close them. Anyway I have seen 4/98 993. My 408s have 993 part numbers. Any way this is a price thread. I was with my wife today because I wanted her to test drive a cayenne gts , yes 2013 420 hp v8. She liked it but this example has too many miles. Anyway saw this 9,000 miles. One owner over $100,000 sticker 2003 Carrera 4s. It’s here in Houston they say $80, but they will let it go for $70k. I was bidding on the 09 Carrera S but it got out of my price point. I saw and test drove that car last Saturday cream puff, since I was driving my car I was able to compare it back to back. By the way my car is pretty comfortable for me, I drove it home from Wisconsin 1300 miles in 22 hours, longest break about 3 hours dinner and email, info check leaving Illinois.

While I do love my early 99 C2, and I tend to agree that they seem to be well built since the highest mileage 996's I have seen have been early '99s, one has to appreciate just how beautifully a later model 996 drives. My buddy's '04 Carrera is night and day difference. I'd love a later model 996 to keep my '99 company, that way I would have the best of both worlds.

That could be cause or (chronological) effect. All 996 flavors have their advantageous quirks. But I can't help but wonder if the only real objectively superlative iteration was the MKI GT3: Mezger motor, GT1 headlights, greener grass and all

I prefer the aesthetics of the MK1, but by all accounts the MK2 GT3 is a better car. Would love to drive a MK1 sometime though.

By all accounts so is the 992 GT3. But to sit in the ancient 1999 and hear that raw Mezger crackle and backfire.

Sounds like you need an antibiotic after sitting on one of those...

Be careful.

Went to the Porsche dealer last week to look at a 2018 911 with manual and 39k miles. Asking $105k for it (this sold new about 4 years before the same sticker price when new). Asked about ordering a new one instead. It would take a year to get it. It would also be an extra $10k over MSRP from them. And it would only be a PDK if base model 911.

The used car manager came back after looking at my car: a 2003 cabriolet with 100k on the clock, in really good shape. Offered me $12k and they could help with DMV transfer papers.

I felt bad I could not accept their generosity.

My car is looking so awesome and I still look back a few times after parking it.

Oh come on, you didn't want to help the dealership make $20k on your car?

They'd give you 12 and put it on the lot for 28.9

I test drove a 2020 in before buying my car. No I didn’t like it. A few weeks ago I drove a15 gts, still not for me. Where I draw the line is in a 997 carera s. Not the 4s , but a regular s. After those for me the cars are too big, with way to much electronics and controls. The guys from our PCA chapter connected me with the salesman at the best Porsche dealer here. Anyway the salesman told me we are in a bubble right now it will burst but nobody knows when, it’s not the time to buy.

You're nice. Some people would have torn him a new one.
