Here's a look at the personal best lap from this outing compared to the previous personal best from the last outing.
There're a lot of colored curvy lines, so hang with me. In general, the Dark Blue is PB and Green is PPB.
I've added some colored sections labeled 1 to 4. The green sections are where time was gained and the yellow where time was lost relative the PPB
The X axis is distance in feet. This allows you to see where early or late events are that affect the time
From the top: Speed, RPM, Accelerations, Braking & Throttle position
The bottom graph is the time gained over the previous lap. You can also think of this as time the previous lap is behind the PB lap.
Looking at the time graph first, you can see that almost all the time difference, 0.6 seconds was made up on the first turn! Section 1: Going to the top graph, the green speed curve starts dropping earlier in distance than the blue. You see the same effect on the acceleration section. The green trace drops earlier than the blue but does come up at the same location. Dropping further to the braking graph, you can see that braking occurred later on the PB lap. The acceleration coming out of the turn is the same for both laps and so the time difference plot shows a flat line at 0.6 seconds.
Until section 2: This section is the same as section 1. Time is gained by braking later. Braking was longer on the PB lap, so even though time was gained, it set up a problem for:
Section 3: Long braking and late acceleration lost 0.45 seconds in section 3. Each section of the graphs show the Blue is later than the green
Section 4: 0.4 seconds of time was regained in section 4 by again, braking later into the turn
The rest of the lap follows similar pattern. It's all about when to start braking and when to start accelerating. In general, the overall G's look to be the same, so later braking does not mean harder braking. This probably indicates the car is on a better line.

So... Decided to go right for the gusto and just pull the bank 2 cat after getting the PO430 code on the way home from the track and wouldn't you know it, I managed to smoke that cat too ! This, I will remind folks is the 30K mile cats I bought off the youtube sub after starting the year off with a PO420 and replacing the bank 1 cat. At the time I figured, hey, I'll just replace both with the 30K mile set and hopefully that will keep me going and I'll have the spare good one off my 85K mile car.
Well, now the 85K mile one is going back on.
Bonus, when I pulled the pre cat 02 sensor from this cat, it left half the threads in the cat... so now trying to get the 02 back in when the sensors threads are 90% destroyed AND the cat pipes threads are 90% destroyed has worked out... not awesome
It's in enough to get me through the next track day, I think and then I am done ****ing around with cats. I'm either gutting the 2 bad ones I have or if Soul wants to hook me up with some deletes - winkidy wink wink - I would be MORE than happy to run those. Either way, no cats for me, I'll have to figure out something with the sound which is fine.
My buddy jobyt hooked me up and I'll have an 02 sensor to replace the one in the car that is mangled and spares ! love having spares.
Put a WTB add up for cheap cat deletes or x pipes, shot in the dark to see if I can avoid having to cut open the 2 bad cats I have to gut... but, since I am cheap, and running out of car funds - it's likely the cutting and removal of the cat elements will commence this week.
Finally got to take a nice rip this morning after 5 inches of rain in the past 2 days and 1. She RIPS 2. No codes 3. ABS is working.
On number 1 - this car absolutely slays back roads, it is THE best handling car on the street I have ever driven, which is kind of surprising given the stiff springs, alignment and all the solid stuff in the suspension. I chalk it up to the ohlins being so good and handling bumps. The car is not skittish at all, I need to drive it on the road more.
And thanks for the lap - it's helpful. I've been really trying to get as much video preparation in as I can to try to take most advantage of the day, the track looks really fun.
996 Gang heading to Limerock Tuesday! Finally got around to oil change and gave the car a once over for the track. Looking forward to the event and ripping it up at Limerock with Aaron and Jason. Maybe some more 996’s will show up.
Yes! I got the conductor plate changed in the Tip so hopefully that holds me over until. I'll see you guys there - I plan to be there about 10:30-11. The driver's meeting is at 12:30 and there's no time after for any pre-session prep! The track's hot at 1.
Good luck Tuesday, I may try to schedule a meeting close by and come visit.
Here is something to look at in the meantime. Not saying this is the best way but it got me around.

That's a nice lap, very good lines especially through the left hander setting up for the right hander. Last time out I sat on the hill above the left hander with the driver who holds the SM2 lap record, and listened to his commentary on the cars as they went through. Under the bridge brake late enough that you're off the brake and turning in at the bridge's shadow. On the power then a lift with no brake for the second part of big bend, don't go further right than centered approaching the left hander, tight to the left to set up the right hander, have at it going to the uphill.
I haven't got the guts to come flat out into the downhill turn, though that's what he said to do....
