Derek and Jim at Sound in Motion, Watertown, MA have built many audio installations for me over the years. They are very creative, and most of their customers prefer that their installations look like they came from the factory.
If you want a custom batwing, give them a call for a price. I'm not sure exactly how much mine cost because it was lumped in as part of the total installation.

Installation on my USA 2003 996 turbo with PCM2 and MOST was very straightforward. Reused the existing GPS and FM antenna connections. Installed the new microphone; apparently the existing one is not compatible. Didn't need the FM antenna adaptor (911.645.574.55) or fiber optics MOST bridge (996.42.585.00) which are included. The kit didn't have the diversity antenna connectors and DAB receiver which are for RoW only. I put the multimedia interface box in the glove compartment, and ran a 6ft iPhone cable to the center console. I removed the really old iPod in the frunk and left the iPod adapter alone.

Another option for the USB box:
I had a thought about being able to somehow hook up a rear camera using one on the USB ports for this, but not sure if some sort of interface is needed. Maybe someone with some know how can chime in?

On Suncoast it says not compatible but does anyone know if the single din unit will work in the 996? I am sure dimensions are off as well as connectors in the back.
I'd personally much rather have the single din vs the double. I am about to remove an aftermarket screen in mine and thought about putting the original radio in and relocating climate back up top and getting a GT3 delete for the bottom.

I finally received the double din conversion parts and was able to get mine in, inspired by the batwing install for the multimedia box. Not as OEM looking but it works.

Wow.... perhaps reset the unit by unplugging the battery and reconnecting. Aside from a bad unit, I would triple check your wiring. Maybe just have the basics plugged in to see if you can get the menus working.
It might help people to list what year car and with most (fiber) or not.
