Default Installation guide of the PCCM Plus

So here it is..

Also printable on Google docs..
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...3Cju5JyKo/edit

The PCCM Plus installation guide for the 996 Bose non-most system with PCM1 unit.I have the Bose analog MY2002 system (NOT MOST) in my 2002 996 Turbo.
The Bose system includes:

PCM1 unit - in the coupe

Navigation DVD unit - in the coupe

Bose 996.645.3387.00 AMP unit - in the frunk, next to the spare wheel
The PCM1 unit sends high level output to the Bose amp in the frunk.

In my case the 996.645.338.00 amp.

- The Bose amp unit takes the high level and amplify it to the speakers.
So when installing the PCCM+ I had no use of the fiber optic components included in the kit.
Here is what’s included in the kit.
Also a short youtube video - of everything

Next page..

Everything was pretty straight forward..
1: I removed dashboard bracket with the buttons for the PSM, window viper, door lock.. et.c.
  • start at the bottom corner with a plastic removal tool and work around it.
2: Removed the center vent (two clips over it).
  • This was hard to remove, but with some force it worked out.
3: Removed the 4 torx screws holding the bracket with the PCM unit and cup holder
  • this is needed to install the new unit.
4: Removed all connections on the old unit.
  • The two connectors (blue and black) - which has no connections on the new unit - is for the AC and Navigation, so these will not be used again, but i just showed them in behind everything.
5: Prepared the FM/DAB adaptors and had to swap a connector on my antenna to use both FM and DAB
  • new unit is only FAKRA connector for FM, DAB and GPS (I did not install the gps antenna because I will use Carplay and didn’t want to make the cable management for the gps)
6: Installing the new unit - was pretty easy...
  • Connect ISO BLACK - Power
  • Connect ISO BROWN - Speaker output
  • Connect connection BLUE/GREEN/YELLOW - AMP switch on (only the yellow adapter will be used here)
  • Connect all FAKRA - FM, DAB in my case (via FM/DAB unit included in kit)

Here’s a picture of the old unit with it’s plugs, NUMER I & II is not connected to the new unit.
- this are for the old navigation and hands free system

Next page..
7: Starting up the unit
  • And no sound..so here my headache started.. I got into some forums and came to conclusion that the wire (red/black) on the yellow adaptor was the one sending switch power to the AMP unit in the frunk.. but nothing happened.
So i made a bypass and gave the switch cable 12v from the 12v lighter connection to test if it worked.. And yes, we had sound.. but the gain was really high, volume *** level 1 was like half volume before and there was very high noise level in the system.

So the next day I contacted Porsche and got a tip that you have to set the
PCCM Plus unit in AMP mode if you don’t have the MOST-system

This is done if you go into the settings menu and hold the VOLUME symbol on the display for aprox 10 seconds. Now I got amp switch power without bypassing the yellow adaptor.

Next page..
  • but…

Still noise and high gain on the volume…

So after some research I ordered an ISO adapter with resistance for high gain to amp. This is a common problem on other cars when using after market stereo with OEM Amp

  • Basically this adapter takes down the output volume from the new head unit.

This sorted out everything and now it works perfect.

Super post.

Can you measure the height and width of the face of the unit and tell me what it is in mm?

I have this theory that it is a standard size used in Volkswagen and Audis of the time.

Nice write up!

In two minds about this mod as my 996 is my analogue car it does have a CDR23 + Bluetooth auto but it does look like it fits very nicely into the 996 interior

Hi. Would you happen to have the OEM installation guide for the PCCM Plus? Don't want to get into the install and mess something up as I have never done anything like this before.

Don't suppose you could do a review on all the features of this system?

Looking at getting this for my 996. If I understand correctly you are not using the GPS antenna that comes with the unit but rather can access GPS data from your phone? I heard a rumour somewhere that the map data is "sold separately."

I am really excited about getting this for my 996. Does anyone know if the PCCM+ is available for purchase in the US yet? If not, any projections on when it will be available?
