What did you do to your 996 today?

Finally got all of the clear bra off. It was on,
- The frunk lid
- The front fenders
- The front bumper cover
- The mirrors
- Behind the front wheel wells as splash guards
- In the door handles to protect from finger nail scratches
I literally spent about 12-15 hours doing this over a week. I'm sure that I saved myself $1,000 in labor.
Thankfully, no clear coat or paint was removed. I did manage to leave two 1cm scratches on the rocker panels which were from the plastic razor blade holder (not the blade). I had it flipped over and a metal edge caught the car. 100% careless.
The MVP was the $50 household steamer and the runner up was a spray bottle of Goo Gone. Believe it or not, rubbing with a microfiber cloth filled with hot, soapy water did wonders to remove the glue. Faster than using Goo Gone.
Here is a bag with about 2lbs of PPF, the largest panel was about the size of a dollar bill. The bag is about 16" tall.
I was at the Porsche dealership today checking on parts and I saw a new Carrera T in there with full body PPF and I broke out into a cold sweat 😰

What gets me are the guys that cover their car with leading edge tape for track days. I've seen more Corvettes mummified with that stuff... must be a lot of work to put it on then take it off without pulling any paint off.

Might be a dumb question, but someone pressed too hard on one of my switches (defroster) on the dash before I got, how the heck do I get it back in place? Thanks!

Lots of videos on how to do this. Maybe search for "996 head unit installation" or something like that to see what's involved. You just need a plastic trim removal tool.
On a difficulty scale of 1-5, it's a 1.

When putting in storage, I use bounce dryer sheets and I put 000 steel wool in openings (tail pipes, air intake). I also spread snap traps in the garage with peanut butter.

You have to pull off the "horseshoe" and push the button back into place from the rear.

Took the overly dark tint off and installed one of those PCM knockoffs from Ali Baba.
i know it’s not OEM, but install was plug and play and it works incredibly well.

I'm replacing bits from the PO - broken radiator shrouds and brake ducting. Also cleaning the radiators and adding Rennline screens into the bumper. Going to try to get the front lip spoiler done this weekend as well.

My neighbors just love me exercising the 996 SuperCup car.

Very cool SuperCup! But we’re all aware that “exercise” is being used very loosely.
I replaced my torn, original transmission mount with a new one, and installed the softest (orange) Function First transmission mount inserts, today.
I also installed the two diagonal braces/struts that connect the body to the engine support.
After a brief test drive, I can’t stop smiling. The two braces have taken out a lot of slop from the rear end during turns. Power delivery to the rear tires is much quicker than before. It feels like there’s been an improvement in efficiency.
The transmission mount and inserts have made shifting a total joy. The gearshifts are much crisper, and rev-matching is a lot easier now, too.
I do notice some NVH, though. It was immediately apparent upon the first crank of the car. The NVH is actually kind of nice. I don’t have any exhaust or intake mods (they’re bone stock, and will remain that way), and the vibration gives me a sense of what the engine is doing throughout its rev range. I am glad I didn’t choose a harder insert - this is perfect for me.
So if you haven’t had a chance to install your Function First transmission mount insert (and replace your trans. mount) you really ought to do it! It’s elevated my love for my car.

I installed the freshly refurbished Fikse FM10s and went to C&C.

Replaced the wheel center caps. I had lost two emblems. These are the wrong ones but they were a fraction of the cost of the correct ones and they fit and look "ok". I'll get used to the shine.
