What did you do to your 996 today?

Replaced the emergency flasher relay to solve an inconsistent (starts normal but then speeds up/slows down) turn signal issue.
It was only happening on the left side, which had an aftermarket LED indicator. I replaced that with OEM but the problem persisted. When I put the emergency flashers on, both sides would work in union at the right timing. All the bulbs were good so I thought the relay was the next, best target. Ordered it and the following day the right turn signal started to get inconsistent too, so I knew it was the relay. Came today, I popped it in and boom - fixed.
For the brake light switch, I picked the car up about two months ago, out of state after having a PPI. When I drove it for the first time after a bit the PSM and ABS lights came up in the dash. The dealership (a Lexus dealership) had just replaced the battery and I figured it was throwing old codes. The codes cleared and stayed clear after a restart (they were taking it to the garage to throw a scanner on it when the codes cleared) so I figured it was due to the battery replacement and looked forward to the 4 hour drive home in my new 911. Then after a few weeks the lights came back. Several times.
A quick Google and turns out the brake light switch can wear out over time and it's a ~$25 part which is easy to DIY, so that's what I did.
Quick note for anyone doing this - it's easy to pull the switch out, but I found it nearly impossible to reassemble if the switch is plugged into the wiring harness first. Mark the "T" side of the switch so you know to align that with the larger yellow tab on the plug, and insert the switch into the metal bracket first. Use a pair of small channel lock pliers to rotate it and then plug in the wiring harness.

I looked at the left tail pipe covered in dry coolant and contemplated my level of frustration that I will encounter to remove and replace the existing tank.
Got the Porsche tank and cap from dealer. Ordered a coup!e of engine mounts as part the while I am in there.
Only gonna do it I'd next month. Heading to the cottage for a coup!e weeks. Will post pics of my bloody knuckles.

Replaced rear swaybar endlinks. For the record, MOOGs with the greasable fittings won’t work, wrong thread pitch despite Rock auto saying they would fit.
Ended up with Meyle from FCP Euro. Will be doing the fronts in the morning

Welcome, well done. Who did the wrap? How expensive was it? The red calipers look great. If you like the contrast maybe you can do the porsche in red , my car has it on the side. Your car looks great.
This side scripts look cool to me.
That’s my 99. It was like that when I bought it. I’m currently concentrating on the turbo, but when I get done with the turbo, I may repaint or wrap this one.

I received my service cover.
I’d been wanting one for a while and ordered one from AutoAtlanta.
It took 19 days to arrive.
That’s not bad for a special order item.
It fits well and only takes 1 person to install.
It fits all 996 and 997.

I assume so.
It appears to be made out of the same material as a 1980’s car bra.
I’m pretty certain I had a Colgan car bra on either my 1985 Chrysler Laser or my 1987 VW Scirocco 16V, or both.

Painted my calipers today. They were red when I got it, but it's not an S, so I need to figure out which previous owner painted them. Either a guy in his 30's or a woman in her 70's... I kept them red because, why not?
Took me forever to clean, prep and mask everything but I think they came out looking nice.
Going to dip my wheels tomorrow, because I am done for the day. I need a beer and a shower.

Three Wheelin'
Cars and coffee ( biers) the garagisti
Went to the garagisti here in Houston today for jalapeño cheese sausage kolaches and biers. Met a few new people. Car ran great, then when I turned the ac on I got a check engine light. Anyway went to advance auto and had them diagnosed it, cylinder 3 misfire. Anyway I bought the sunshade, I only paid $6 for it because I had a couple $5 rewards from advanced. I feel like an idiot because about a month ago I paid $35 for a cover king shade for the turbo from pelican , in my opinion the advance one is better. Went for a few beers at my local watering hole and then to pick up my son from work at outback and then late lunch. Awesome we get 50 percent off because he works there.
A friends spider and the silver surfer. I’m still amazed as how much fun Is to drive the 99.
14&15 gts, both pdk.
The parking lot was full.
04 C4s. Unfortunately is a trip. Ims blew up engine he got a new engine replaced by porsche under warranty,
I like that spoiler.
Real good fit for that sunshade. In my opinion better than the cover king that I bought from pelican at less than 50 percent of the cost.
Had two advance $5 rewards so the cover was only $6, they also diagnosed the check engine and cleared the code for me.
Had lunch with my son at Outback after he got out of work. Since he works there we get 50 percent off.

Burning Brakes
Picked up my kid from summer camp
170 mile drive up the freeway in the eve then nice backroads drive on some *fun* roads to go get him then drive back. Twisty roads made him puke (outside the car) but he's fine. About 450 miles there and back
after cleaning my rads and installing the manual fan switch the car never got hot (190-210F) despite 80-102F outside. Amazing gas mileage of 26.5mpg on the boring straight highway bits.
996 just rolled over 118k and it's running perfect!
