What did you do to your 996 today?

I’m a novice wrench. I started by replacing my front drop links. That went well, I got some hands on familiarity with the suspension and gave me the confidence to keep wrenching. I’m going to do the front sway bar bushings next. After that, the coffin arm and tuning fork links.
When it’s time for shocks and springs I may take that to a shop. We’ll see.

What would you recommend as a suspension starting place for for someone who has no experience with suspensions? (Actually I replaced the shocks on my 1965 Pontiac about 50 years ago). Maybe something that is easy and will help me decide if I want to continue or just have a shop do it.
I really like Feal coilovers, but they’re not the answer for everyone.
Coilovers or fully assembled struts are MUCH easier than just installing strut inserts.
Also, is there anything special about Porsche suspensions that requires a Porsche indy to do it?
I‘ll take some pictures of the ones I recommend having.
Also, I recommend getting a computerized alignment.
Also, what are the winning Lotto numbers for next week's drawing?

The first one is definitely the hardest.
I installed a Feal suspension yesterday on a C4.(Millennium Edition)
Having the lift sure made things easier!
It still took a lot longer than I thought it would.
We installed and uninstalled 3 corners trying to get the height just right.
In the end it looked perfect.
Feal has either slightly redesigned their stuff, or the 996.1 C4 suspension is different, or both.
Some of the differences I like, and some I don't.
But nothing earth shattering.

I almost lost a tooth when my wrench slipped and I face planted into the rotor. The second side was going well until I realized the ball joint stud was just turning with the nut. The other nut (me) was wondering why this one was taking so much longer than the other...Wish I had a lift!

On the C2 I had a tough time getting a crowfoots in there with the torque wrench.
On both, I just use experience to tell me when I hit the correct torque.

Yeah, usually I use a prybar or a c-clamp to help hold ball joints where they're fully seated and then I don't have a problem with spinning.
Wish I had a lift!
It was worth the price.
Imagine jacking up a car and putting jack stands under it, then jacking up the car, removing jack stands, and dropping it to ground to measure...then do it several more times.
Having an easy UP/DOWN button, it only took 1 minute to unlock the safety and drop the entire car to the ground. 30 seconds later it could be back in the air.
With an impact wrench too, we saved a ton of time.
In fact, after letting the suspension settle the C4 owner wants to raise the back end a little.
With the QuickJack we should be able to adjust the rear in short order this weekend.

How does one properly torque the ball joint end of the coffin arm, also the eccentric bolts have no room for a torque wrench.

Check out the 13:40 mark in this video. She uses a really cool tool for that. The whole video is worth watching.

Went to turn on the headlights last Friday morning and neither worked. My car has litronics and they’ve been slow to come on since I purchased the car. Usually about 10-20 seconds after they were switched on. I’ve seen this on early xenon headlight equipped cars from the same era so never gave it much thought.
Some quick google searches revealed this could be the headlight switch itself.
Replaced it with this morning and low beams come on instantly. Very easy install. 30 mins tops.

Maybe you should trust your conscience and just not say it, then. As you stated, it’s a good tutorial. The gender of the person sharing their wrenching knowledge doesn’t change that.
I don’t know why their videos should be any harder to watch than ones featuring the typical dudes. Let’s face it: automotive YouTubers generally aren’t GQ cover models.
I’ve heard from plenty of women, gay folks, and others who are car enthusiasts but don’t get involved in car events and communities because of “car bros”.
There’s more anti-car sentiment in the world than ever, and we drive the misfit model of the Porsche world. It seems to me like we should go out of our way to welcome anyone that wants to drive and wrench on these amazing and under appreciated cars.

But some voices do.
Fannie, Scotty Kilmer, Doug Demuro all have voices that are irritating to listen to.
I don't watch any of theirs...unless there is something of great interest.

Ha, I'm definitely not interested in GQ Youtubers. I watch lots of female, and possibly gay Youtube DIYers.(Some, but not all are automotive related) Male, female or gay doesn't bother me.
