What did you do to your 996 today?

Burning Brakes
It was an amazing experience. I was out there all day saturday and most of sunday just watching and taking it all in. Driving on that track just cannot be explained in words.

Was looking for LED's to change plate, frunk and engine lights
....and bumped into this...I thought it would be fun to do...and I am pleasantly surprised with the end result...all for $16.00...I saved the originals....I do not expect these things to last very long...in the meantime, they are just cool...
Found these in Amazon
A little modification to the wiring...and they pop right in

Being LED, I actually expect them to last for quite some time, which would be good because I like them too.

I can only find ones that say they don't fit 911. (or 996)
Never mind, I found them:

They physically fit. The issue is the connector. This is the one I purchased (now sold out but many other are available):
https://www.ebay.com/itm/2PCS-NEW-LED-Car-Lamp-Logo-Door-Welcome-Light-Projector-PANAMERA-CAYMAN-997-911/293218431739
The lights come with small pins designed for the 997. The 996 uses larger spade plugs.
If you are good with a soldering iron and shrink tubing, you can make it work. It looks like TexSquirrel just added large spade connectors to the other end, cutting off the small connectors.
I went a little further and used the original connector, soldered them to the inside of the new lights with an additional auto connector in-between.

Yes...that's it...I just broke/crushed the "plastic" black plug (where the pins are) .... separated the 2 wires....and crimped blade terminals on them....wrap with tape...and done

Three Wheelin'
Took mine in to the Indy for a Oil change (My current home I just don't have any space.. )
Second oil change since purchase. 5100 miles.
Had them add a magnetic drain plug while we were there..
Oil was clean, nothing in the sump...
Filter Clean.
The way they put it was all we could see was oil!
I had them dump a sample of the oil for send off. Well see how it goes.

One review on Amazon said they melt internally and are a fire hazard. Maybe check after awhile and let us know what you find. They do look cool.

I started swapping in some hardback sport seats from a 997(That I got from a fellow Rennlister). There are a couple caveats - one being that they don't really match my interior The upside is that they're not so different that I can't live with them for a little while (Until I can refinish them in Savanna Beige). They're Natural Brown Leather which is really nice - obviously not perfect, but once again, livable for the time being. The second being that Porsche changed the plugs for the seat and seat-belt connections - The upside of this is that there are only 4 connections to make, and others have done this (there are photo's/write-ups both on Rennlist and 6speed Online) - It would just be really sweet if they were "plug n play"...A photo for posterity...

Agreed...I did see that review, and will check in a few weeks....however, I rarely keep the door open for more than 10-15 seconds.....I can see the melting happening if you leave the door open for 10-15 minutes at a time (admiring the emblem?)....lol

The bolstering is deeper so you stay in the seat better - especially during aggressive driving (which to me is "more comfortable"). This being said, they seem to be a bit firmer than the stock seats as well - I'm not sure how this will affect comfort over long drives since they don't seem as "cushy" as the stock seats (which I never had a problem with on long drives) but I think they'll be fine - will update my experience in the future. I think overall, they'll be a nice "upgrade" over the stock seats - especially in the aesthetic department (the blue painted hard backs are just awesome, and the Porsche Crest on the headrest is pretty cool too ). I think once I dye them the proper color and paint my center console to match the seat-backs and the outside color they'll be fully integrated.

Replaced Clutch Helper Spring
I commute daily in my 996, and have to put up with SoCal traffic. After arriving home with a cramp in my left leg, one too many times, I decided to investigate why my clutch pedal was so dang stiff. I read all the posts about REMOVING the helper spring and figured mine might be the culprit. After a moderate amount of cursing, I extracted the old one and as suspected, it was broken. A little more time spent cussing, and the new one's installed. Quite a difference, my clutch pedal now feels like a Honda's!
Whole project, including a detour to lube my gas pedal, was under 45 minutes.

Started work on installing my IMS Solution. Removing the A/C Compressor to get to the tensioner was brutal, because I dropped the socket and it fell down between the injectors. That forced me to remove the bumper and heat shield to get to it!! In all the A/C compressor took me 5 hours to do.
Trans out and there is the original IMS.
Getting this thing out is way harder than it should be.
Started cleaning up the back of the engine.
