First oil change on the new to me 996. Went well. Inspected the filter and dint find any metal flakes or debris. Filled it back up with Motul 5w40. Went for a drive.
Finally finished the install on the Ohlins R&T.
Two weekends because I'm slow and I like to clean.
Making sure setup is correct.
Also replaced the 15yo+ top mounts.
Not sure yet if I'm going to need new end links.
First side always takes 3x longer than the other
note: photos show my progress and are not complete

Wow. You were not kidding about liking to clean! You will love the Ohlins.

That is nice.
I need to do some homework and find a suspension kit that will allow for a little lift. I did a quick look at the upper shock mounts today - and it may be possible to insert spacers between them and the body. Would need to work out the stud length issue and understand the alignment implications. Looks feasible, though.
My work, today, was much less glorious. I found the reason that washer fluid was not reaching the windshield. The hose came off the nipple. And if you've ever had your hose come off the nipple, you know how painful that can be...

you also add the thicker rubber pad spacer between the top mount bearing and spring perch to add height if needed.
I’ve seen 3.0mm and 6.0mm pads available.
not sure what you could do on the rear.
I just did the brakes for the first time on my 996. Pagid disks and Akebono pads. I haven't put many miles on them yet, but I'm happy with the initial impression.
I also, swapped the stock turbo twists onto the car for the first time since I bought it. They don't have nearly the presence of my 19s, but the steering is so much lighter and more responsive, I just might keep them on.
Zero dust from our Akebono pads night and day difference from whatever was previously on there, result real easy to clean complex wheels. Interested to see how your coated disks look after a few months of water exposure, our Zimmermans are rust free except inside the drilled holes.

That's very intriguing. Do you have more information, or a link, to find these pads?
In my brief inspection of the rear, it looks as though the same idea would apply. Getting an additional 6+mm of clearance is an attractive proposition.
Wheels powder coated Platinum Satin and installed with 7/15mm spacers.
That looks real nice. I'd even be so bold as to go with black. Not just to **** off the haters - but because I would like the look.
I'm trying to decide whether to go with that (gun metal?) of black for my winter wheels. Either way - if I draw the ire of the "purists", I don't give a damn.
