Michelin Pilot Sport 2s go on tomorrow. Interested to see how they stack up against 5+ year old Sumitomos lol... The guy at Discount Tire asked me twice if I was sure I wanted these tires since they only have a 20k mile warrant, and I said well yeah! For whatever reason their system is wrong in showing the PS4s fit on the C4S, and the rears being 285/30. Tire Rack has it right with 295/30 so I had to special order the PS2s.

I've had a set of Pilot Sports on my car for a year, almost 20K miles, and I've still got half the tread depth on the rears. Fronts seem almost new.
Of course. It's a 6-sp '99 with 88k miles. LN Eng. IMSB was completed @ 77k miles by S Car Go in San Rafael, CA. It has OEM Litronic Xenons but I don't see them on the build sheet so one of the prior owners must have added them. Interior is in great shape. There's a tiny hole in the rear passenger side seat, the size of a grain of rice. Here are some interior pics from the prior owner. I'll post some more once cleaned up. I've already remove the Pep-Boys style pedals and awaiting OEM rubber from suncoast
Thanks for sharing. Really nice car, looking forward to hear how your upgrades go along the way!
Yes, they had them in stock and tried to sell them to me, but the 285/30s are smaller than OEM for the rears, so I didn't want that. IIRC, 285/30 is stock for the C2 and C4 but for C4S and Turbo it's 295/30. I had 225/40 and 295/30 on them already and it was just fine. I could have gone for 235/40 up front but OEM sizes has been good so far. I can see how you could throw 305s on in the back and it still look good.

I'm pretty easy on my tyres, even when on track so I'm not too worried honestly and I told the sales guy that. I put maybe 5-6k miles a year on my car, so I will move this car on before the tyres run out.
I feel like this is a safe space and no one would judge me so here we go... Today I vacuumed behind my tail lights! Took the lights off to replace de-laminated amber bulbs and was surprised to find plenty of fine sand. So I vacuumed and wiped down with detailing spray before reassembly.
Enjoy your nice 996. I hope you have as much fun making it suit you as I did with mine. Why wouldn’t you get back behind those lights to clean and control future sources of corrosion? Sand abraids and abrasion leads to corrosion and corrosion leads to..........Ha! Everyone thought I was gonna say bore scoring! K, you’re all correct because everything leads to bore scoring. Unless IMS failure gets you first.

I got rid of my squeaky control arms.
New coffin arms, control arm links and sway bar bushings.
My 18 year old 996 drives like a new car!
One of the coffin control arms was a Üro that I installed in November 2017.
It started making noise a few weeks ago.
It lasted 25,000 miles.
I replaced it with another Üro.
They just run $85 each and Amazon delivered them the next day.
Very easy to replace too.
I drove it the scenic route to Harbor Fright. The Cayenne's AC compressor bit the dust last week and I was shocked at the estimates I was getting to have it replaced. I admit I'm out of touch with pricing because I try to do all my own wrenching and haven't taken a car to a shop since the '90s, but still...
I saw Dharn55's post in another thread yesterday and it inspired me to try the job myself. I bought a vacuum pump and manifold/gauge set that with a running sale and a 20% coupon, I saved $52.00 and got out of the door for under $200.00.

I did the work myself and the compressor I bought was the exact same as the one I took out without the Porsche tax. I also bought a drier, a set of o-rings and an expansion valve, then a vacuum pump and gauges at Harbor Freight. Fixed the system and it produces at about 37 degrees consistently for 3-4 years now.
Sometimes I take a picture before I go into a store when driving a cool car because it seems like no matter how far away from the entrance I park, there is some idiot crowding my space when I come out.
