^^ I'm def getting a welder and a drill press in 2024.
For my part I largely finished up the wire runs, etc for a cluster upgrade/OBC activation. I either did or didn't fry my cluster on my first check to see if they worked post wire runs. I definitely broke and ordered new wire harness clips for the cluster (thanks suncoast!).
I'm gonna finish the 987 engine cover swap, the underdrive pulley swap, and button up the engine bay tomorrow. Hopefully, I can put the dash together and finish the clusters next weekend.
Repaired my fvd muffler bracket. At some point this season the lower section left the car. Not sure how but since fvd wants over $700 for a replacement i fabed up some parts to rebuild it.
Showoff.
J/K, nice work! I'm >this< close to picking up a welder and resurrecting my long dormant and never all that great skills. I'd need to invest in some curtains to create a safe zone in the garage, but those could be handy for other reasons as well. Always some other project to work on...

Just need to get some exhaust gaskets to finish it up. I guess i should mention that i fixed 3 emissions faults that i have been ignoring. I have had a charcoal canister vac issue since the motor swap and i finally found a quick disco fitting off the gas fill pipe sensor, an o2 sensor heater that was a broken wire and a sai issue caused by a vac line off at the change over valve. The great thing about the last thing is it actually fixed 2 other issues, the resonance valve in the rear plenum was in op due to the vac leak and the vac leak itself. Hard to believe that its gonna run better.
It was great that these issues that i have been ignoring for months were fixed in about 2hrs.
Found out my frunk struts have perished. Any recommendations aside from OEM/Stabilus or am I going to pay $60 to not bonk my head?
Well, I tried Amazon Boxi struts for $16. Been 2 years now on my 996.1, and they still work flawlessly so far.
Figured they all fail eventually so might as well give these a try for 16bucs.
Got another set for the engine lid then realized only need 1 for the engine lid. Its worked fine for almost 2 years now. Used the other 1 on my 996.2 when it just went out last summer, works fine also.
Got another set for the front trunk of my 996.2, they were just a tad to long, maybe 1/4" if that, so I said fug it for 16$ and popped them on it anyhow to see what would happen. They work fine and now the 996.2 opens the front trunk real high... Been about a year and a half now and they still work great.
After that, I looked at the Amazon listing and on the bottom of page it gives a diagram measurement of full extended length and compressed length. I'd measure yours and match them up corectly even though many Amazon listings say they will or won't fit....
Last couple days I installed the brushed aluminum gauge cluster trim, an ICT shift **** (far superior to the standard OEM shift boot in feel and shape IMO), and a set of turbo twist 8x18 x 10x18 wheels with a brand new set of continental DWS tires.
Loving every minute of it!
This car needs 18” wheels, love the classic look of the turbo twists on the 996 Love the feel and quality of the ICT shift **** Brushed aluminum trim on gauge cluster really makes it pop
